The Marcus Wallenberg Foundation invites applications for the Young Researchers’ Challenge 2026.

Take the chance to present your research to leading scientists and representatives of the forest-based industry and fellow researchers from all over the world.
We invite researchers affiliated with a university, university college, or research institute who are either currently enrolled in a PhD programme (i.e. have commenced their doctoral studies) or already hold a PhD degree, and who are no older than 35 years, to participate.

- Your contribution should not exceed 200 words and must be submitted no later than 2 June 2026.

The nomination period is now closed. We thank all who have nominated candidates for the Marcus Wallenberg Prize. We are delighted to have received many great nominations, and our Selection Committee will now start the process of reviewing them all. The next nomination period will be from 1 February to 30 April 2027.

Young Researchers’ Challenge 2026 is now open!

The Marcus Wallenberg Foundation invites applications for the Young Researchers’ Challenge. Take the chance to present your research to leading scientists and representatives of the forest-based industry and fellow researchers from all over the world. The program will range from 18-20 October 2026 with the opportunity to participate at the Prize ceremony and banquet in honour of the 2026 Marcus Wallenberg Prize Winner Prof. Holger Militz.

We invite researchers affiliated with a university, university college, or research institute who are either currently enrolled in a PhD programme (i.e. have commenced their doctoral studies) or already hold a PhD degree, and who are no older than 35 years, to participate.

The 2026 Marcus Wallenberg Prize is awarded to Prof. Holger Militz for his groundbreaking contributions to research on, and industrialization of wood modification technologies.
Prof. Militz's groundbreaking work has directly enabled the commercialization of several sustainable wood protection technologies.
The prize will be presented by HM the King of Sweden at a ceremony in Stockholm in November this year.

The Young Researchers' Challenge 2025 is now concluded.

The much-appreciated program spanned three days filled with inspiring talks, presentations, and networking opportunities with researchers from eight countries and 18 universities or academic research institutes.
