Modvion is thrilled to announce that we have been selected for Grant Agreement Preparation for up to €39.1 million in financing from the Innovation Fund!

“The Innovation Fund grant will enable Modvion to scale production capacity to meet the demand from the European wind industry. Our towers enable taller wind turbines to increase the efficiency and profitability of wind energy, all while replacing hard-to-abate steel and concrete.” - Maria-Lina Hedlund CEO

Thank you to CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency for selecting us in a highly competitive call and guiding us through this process, set to be finalised in March 2026.

The Razor Science Show team visited us earlier this year to film an episode on Modvion’s wooden wind turbine tower technology! 🌱💨

The episode features co-founders, Otto Lundman and David Olivegren, plus CFO, Maria-Lina Hedlund, who did a fantastic job showcasing how our modular wooden towers are revolutionising wind power. Our laminated wood design makes it possible to build tall towers that are easy to transport, all while dramatically reducing carbon emissions.

It has now been one year since the inauguration of of Sweden's first commercial wind turbine made of wood, now operated by Varberg Energi. During this year, the wind turbine "Wind of Change" has produced an impressive 5.1 GWh of electricity, which corresponds to the electricity needs of more than 400 Swedish homes! 🏡💡

The initial phase of electricity production has been highly successful,” says Björn Sjöström, CEO at Varberg Energi. ”The turbine’s availability has been excellent, and we’ve had no operational issues. This wind power plant is completely in line with our vision of becoming a technology leader in Sweden.”

Today we announced our wooden wind turbine tower design for among the largest onshore turbines 💫

The tower was designed to support a V162 – 6.4MW turbine from the Vestas EnVentus platform with 35 years lifetime. The tower design has been evaluated by the independent certification body TÜV SÜD and received a design evaluation conformity statement.

“The tower design meets all the requirements from the industry and has been thoroughly tested. We look forward to a continued collaboration with Modvion to bring wind turbine towers made of wood to the European market,” - Stephan Mayer, Head of Support Structures on- and offshore at TÜV SÜD.

The tower was designed to demonstrate that Modvion’s wind turbine tower technology can be scaled up for the most powerful wind turbines onshore. Now the company is focusing on adapting the design for series production.

2024: A Record-Breaking Year for Wind Power! 💨

This year marked a significant milestone for wind energy, with Sweden achieving its highest annual wind power production ever – 40.8 TWh! Despite average wind conditions, the continued expansion of wind power enabled wind energy to contribute 25% of Sweden's total electricity production.

Across Europe, wind power now generates approximately 20% of electricity – a testament to the growing role of renewables in securing a sustainable energy future.

But this is just the beginning. To sustain and accelerate this momentum, we need more wind power installations that truly reach their full potential.

Modvion provides modular, wooden, wind turbine towers that are a cost effective and sustainable solution for the tallest turbines. Our technology enables taller turbines, reaching stronger more stable winds, to produce more renewable energy.

ISO 9001 certification reflects our commitment to meeting international quality standards, ensuring that we can consistently deliver for our customers and partners.

But we know this is just the beginning, now we have a foundation that we can keep improving on. Modvion wants to keep exceeding expectations so we can remain at the forefront of innovation in sustainable energy solutions.

A Modvion tower comes with everything you would expect from a wind turbine tower, the only difference is that it's made from wood. Here you can see our commercial installation with the service lift installed, in addition to the ladder that's sometimes preferred by service personel.
