Back in 2020, Jacobi acquired chromatographic resins producer, Finex. Since then, we’ve made various changes that have enhanced operations at the plant. In the most recent edition of our company magazine, A Pure World, we featured one of our most impressive case studies. Steel 7 Nordic, a company converting scrap steel to high-quality steel products on a large scale, lowered their annual CO₂ emissions by 1,000 tonnes by switching from coal-based to coconut shell-based carbon. The switch lowered the number of costly media changeouts required, too.

Today marks World Coconut Day, a day set aside to recognise the significance of this humble drupe. It is common knowledge that coconuts are used widely around the world in food or beauty products; however, coconuts are quietly working in the background of our everyday lives, filtering and cleaning vital natural resources, most notably our water and air. Used as a raw material to produce activated carbon products, coconut shell is incredibly porous, meaning it can easily grab hold of unwanted contaminants in a variety of scenarios.

At Jacobi we champion the use of coconut shell as a raw material and are the largest producer of coconut-based carbon. Renewable, recyclable, and effective, the often overlooked coconut is one of our most important resources.
