The ISAAC Rocket Experiment

The ISAAC Rocket Experiment ISAAC is an experiment that is designed and built by a team of students. It will be launched on a sounding rocket and investigate the middle atmosphere.

The ISAAC experiment is one of 8 student experiments that will be launched on a sounding rocket in March 2014 within the REXUS programme. ISAAC is being designed and built by a team of students at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. So far as many as 18 students have been involved with ISAAC - coming from fields like aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, and s

imilar programmes. ISAAC is mainly supported by the department of Space and Plasma Physics at KTH, with more support coming from Stockholm University, SNSB, DLR, ESA, ISP Optics and Lesjöfors. The REXUS/BEXUS programme is realised under a bilateral Agency Agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Swedish National Space Board (SNSB). The Swedish share of the payload has been made available to students from other European countries through a collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). EuroLaunch, a cooperation between the Esrange Space Center of SSC and the Mobile Rocket Base (MORABA) of DLR, is responsible for the campaign management and operations of the launch vehicles. Experts from ESA, SSC and DLR provide technical support to the student teams throughout the project.

Great News! ISAAC has been selected to participate to the 22nd ESA Symposium on European Rocket and Balloon Programmes and Related Research in Tromsø (Norway) next June!!

Not only will we present our experiment results but one of our team members, Audrey Berquand, will also make a keynote speech about "Achievements on students programmes".

While we are getting prepared, enjoy this (just released) launch video taken aboard our Rocket Mounted Unit!!

ESA posted an article about our launch campaign! If you don't have time to read it, at least go and have a look at the legendary group photo under a live rocket =D

This year’s Rocket Experiments for University Students (REXUS) campaign has been completed. Eight student experiments reached the stratosphere on two rockets. Now the hard work of analysing the results begins.

We got our experiment back today! It is now in the exhibition at KTH, where it can rest until the rocket module flies again with REXUS SCRAP Experiment.

After one year and a half of hard work, we are finally launching, the best reward ever!

The helicopter just came back with the payload, time to see if our RMU had a nice and safe trip!

We just heard from the FOVS team, their experiment was measuring vibrations in the rocket, and they did register our ejection. That means that our ejection was most likely successful.

T+0:19:00 and counting, the rocket has landed. For ISAAC it's seems to be looking good so far, but of course we don't know any details yet.
