We are excited to welcome Naturvetarna as a partner of Synapse! 🔬

Naturvetarna is a non-profit, politically independent Swedish trade union and professional association for academics in the natural sciences. As a member organization of S**o, it represents scientists and professionals across fields ranging from life sciences and environmental science to mathematics and data science.

Naturvetarna works to safeguard the professional interests of its members through collective agreements, career and employment support, salary insights, and professional guidance, while also promoting the importance of scientific expertise in society.
For students and early-career scientists, this partnership provides an opportunity to learn more about working life in Sweden, career development, employment conditions, and the many paths available with a scientific background.

🧫Rodrigo Arcoverde Cerveira
Rodrigo is a computational biologist and immunologist who has lived and worked across Brazil, Spain, Belgium, France, and Sweden. He holds a PhD in Bioinformatics and Immunology from Karolinska Institutet, where he studied B-cell responses and antibody evolution following vaccination. He is now a Field Bioinformatics Scientist at Pixelgen Technologies, helping researchers translate changes in cell-surface architecture into biological insights.

💻André Brasil Vieira Wyzykowski
Dr. André Brasil Vieira Wyzykowski is a computer scientist and Principal Bioinformatics Researcher at SENAI CIMATEC, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, biomedical research, and high-performance computing. His research spans applications from molecular modeling and biometrics to AI-driven health technologies. He is currently collaborating with HumanLab at Karolinska Institutet, together with Prof. Elham Rostami, on research involving AI and digital health.

We’re excited to introduce our first two speakers joining us at 🧬 From Cells to Code: Navigating the Computational Era in Life Sciences!

🧠 Andreas Luttens
Andreas earned his degree in chemistry from Ghent University, Belgium, before completing a PhD in molecular life sciences at Uppsala University, where he developed computational approaches to explore large chemical databases for novel drug candidates. He then joined MIT as a Wallenberg postdoctoral fellow, focusing on deep learning methods to discover new antibiotics against drug-resistant bacteria. Recently appointed a DDLS Fellow in Epidemiology and Biology of Infection at Karolinska Institutet, Andreas leads a lab that harnesses artificial intelligence to design next-generation antivirals and antibiotics.

🧪 Carlos Román Baena
After studying biotechnology in Barcelona—specializing in mammalian cell culture and extracellular vesicles production for gene delivery—Carlos pursued an Erasmus+ Master’s in Marine Biotechnology across several European institutions, where he focused on marine products bioprospection and phylogenetic tree reconstruction to map algal populations to coral ecosystems. For the past three years, Carlos has transitioned this foundation into industry impact within the Synthetic Biology team at Twist Bioscience as a Scientific Development Specialist, driving DNA and protein solutions across coastal European markets spanning from Portugal to Finland.

Together with Twist Bioscience, Synapse Life Science Connect Stockholm is bringing together speakers working across different areas of the life sciences: DNA synthesis, computational drug discovery, and immune profiling.

💻 During the evening, we’ll look beyond the buzzwords and discuss what computational work in life science actually looks like day-to-day. What is overhyped? What is underrated? And where are these fields genuinely heading next?

🧠 Meet the Speakers 🧠

We are excited to announce the second set of speakers for our upcoming event "AI in Life Sciences - Ethics, Diagnosis & Research"!

Christian Code is a biotech entrepreneur and scientist at ScienTek, developing AI-driven technologies for next-generation aptamer discovery. He has co-founded companies including Dianox and helped build Copenhagen's growing biotech ecosystem. Karin Engström leads the Epidemiology and Bioinformatics group at Lund University and is a domain specialist in bioinformatics and genetic data for the Swedish National Data Service, currently focusing on AI.

They will share how AI is turning advances in molecular biology and genetic data into new solutions for research and healthcare, from the lab to the startup world.

🧠 Meet the Speakers 🧠

We are excited to announce the first set of speakers for our upcoming event "AI in Life Sciences - Ethics, Diagnosis & Research" !

Daqu Zhang and Alexander Denger are researchers at Lund University working at the intersection of AI and healthcare. Daqu, a postdoc in Clinical Sciences, uses deep learning to predict early spread of cancer. Alexander, a PhD student in Computational Science, applies ML to detect skiing tumors and improve regenerative medicine for Alzheimer’s disease.

They will provide valuable insights into how AI is transforming diagnosis, research, and clinical decision-making, as well as the ethical questions this raises.
