⛽ Every oil well in the world depends on drilling mud. And the two chemicals that make drilling mud work are CMC and PAC.
CMC = Carboxymethyl Cellulose
PAC = Polyanionic Cellulose
These are oilfield hydrocolloids - added to water-based drilling mud to control how the mud behaves at every depth.
4 grades available:
🔵 CMC-HV - Viscosifier for standard land drilling. Suspends cuttings, controls fluid loss.
🟢 CMC-LV - Fluid loss only. No extra thickening. Tight filtration control.
🟠 PAC-HV - Salt & brine resistant. Stable up to 150C. Offshore & deepwater standard.
🩵 PAC-LV - Zero viscosity spike. Precision filtration in heavy muds. Best for deep wells.
What they do inside the wellbore:
✅ Control viscosity - carry cuttings to surface
✅ Reduce fluid loss - protect the formation
✅ Stabilize wellbore wall - prevent collapse
✅ Reduce friction - improve drilling speed
✅ Perform at 150C - PAC for HTHP wells
PAC holds 68% of global drilling additives market. $0.94B market in 2026. Deepwater demand growing 18% YoY.
