This time, we’d like to highlight Roger&Sons, ethical makers of fine furniture and thoughtful objects.
Believe it or not, our paths crossed over the humble plastic milk bottle. Our first collaboration was in the design and making of stools for a popular local ice-cream and coffee cafe.
Together, we recycled milk bottles collected by the cafe itself for the stool tops while Roger&Sons crafted the legs out of local trees that have been felled and left abandoned.
Working alongside a furniture design studio like Roger&Sons is a reminder that sustainability isn’t a solo effort. It takes minds who are willing to rethink the materials they use, and
partners willing to remake everyday things better.
Says Morgan Yeo, Director of Roger&Sons:
“It has been a joy to work with Semula and to see their growth these past five years. They are grounded in their values and have stayed true to being as sustainable as they possibly
can… their passion and love for their job always reminds me why we started on this journey of sustainability.“
Here’s to making all things possible. #

We are proud to partner Crown Pacific Beverage (CP-Meiji), the managing company for the sale and distribution of Meiji dairy products, a leading brand in dairy products in Southeast
Asia.
This year, Semula has been running Learning Journeys sponsored by CP-Meiji to educate the public on the importance of recycling with emphasis on plastic waste. Together, we have
reached out to schools, institutes of higher learning, companies and the wider community.
Earlier, the company had also collected and donated hundreds of used plastic Meiji milk bottles to Semula.
As shared by Joseph Long, General Manager Crown Pacific Beverage (CP-Meiji)
“Every successful milestone is made possible by great partners. Thank you for being part of
our CP-Meiji Recycling Habits Learning Journey, we look forward to many more
achievements together.

Thank you, Joseph and the CP-Meiji team, for believing that everyday habits can add up to lasting change.

People who got us to where we are today.
We are proud to call Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) a friend and partner. GUI is a non-profit
society with a mission to connect people with nature, self and others. It has spent the last 18
years creating a space to nurture connectedness, creativity and risk-taking for a happier and
more sustainable future through farming, craft workshops and volunteer programmes. These
programmes are conducted on its 2.6-hectare, low-carbon footprint ecovillage, Kampung
Kampus.
Semula has worked alongside GUI to turn discarded plastic into furniture and surfaces for
their communal spaces, pieces made for the people to come together, use and share.
This partnership with GUI is a reminder that a circular economy is also about community:
people who choose to keep showing up, who are willing to rethink what we so often dismiss
as worthless, and who build change one step at a time.
As shared by Cai Bingyu, Kampung Architect at GUI, and the team:
“What inspires us is not simply the work Semula does with plastic waste, but their willingness
to rethink what we often dismiss as worthless. We are grateful to have journeyed alongside
Semula over the years, learning from one another and working towards a hopefully better
future.

Thank you, Cai Bingyu and the GUI team, for sharing this journey with us.

To 5 years of Semula and people who built this with us!
The first partner we’d like to highlight is Foreword Coffee.
Over the years, Foreword Coffee has collected and passed us their used plastic bottles.
What might have been waste became furniture and signages that now live within their cafés.
For us, this partnership has always been a reminder that the circular economy is not just
about recycling.
It’s about creating systems where materials continue to hold value, where waste is seen as a
resource, and where organisations are willing to take that extra step to close the loop.
As shared by Wei Jie, one of the founders of Foreword Coffee:
“Over the past 5 years, Foreword Coffee has had the privilege of partnering with Semula to
recycle our used plastic bottles into furniture and signages used across our cafes.
What started as a simple recycling effort became a meaningful way for us to close the loop
and give waste a second life within our own spaces. We deeply appreciate Semula’s
partnership and shared commitment towards building a more sustainable future through
practical, everyday action.

Thank you Wei Jie and the Foreword team for believing in practical sustainability and
showing that small actions can create lasting impact.
Here’s to many more years of building circular solutions together.

Semula is 5!
It’s been a rollercoaster ride. We built our track out of plastic, plastic waste to be precise. To
date, we have diverted 8 tonnes of plastic waste from our only landfill and incineration
plants, recycling them into a new material for commercial use. Like many start-ups, there
have been many highs and lows. Thankfully, no freefalls. So grateful for that.
On our anniversary, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has come on
this journey with us, who has believed in us, helped in one way or another, motivated and
worked alongside Semula.
Today, because of you, Semula celebrates 5 incredible years.
Watch this space – more to come.

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting participants from Go Green SG for a hands-on workshop exploring the creative potential of recovered plastic materials.

Using plastic waste collected and processed locally, participants transformed what would otherwise have been discarded into colourful works of art. From flowers and abstract patterns to personal designs and meaningful symbols, each piece reflected the creativity and unique perspective of its creator.

What we enjoyed most was seeing how no two artworks were alike.

While the workshop introduced participants to the realities of plastic waste and recycling in Singapore, it also demonstrated something equally important: that materials often considered "waste" can still hold value, purpose and potential.

At Semula, we believe sustainability is not just about managing waste. It is about reimagining our relationship with materials and recognising that what we throw away today could become the resource for tomorrow.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and brought so much energy, creativity and curiosity to the session.

If your organisation, school or community group is looking for a hands-on sustainability experience, we'd love to explore how we can bring this workshop to your team.
