What is the difference between general servicing and chemical overhaul ?🤔🤔

General servicing 💦💦
- Aims to clean dirt and dust buildup in various air con parts
- No chemical reagents are used
- Should be done regularly to keep air con functioning efficiently

Chemical overhaul đź’Şđź’Ş
- Aims to thoroughly clean the different air con parts with chemical reagents
- Air con unit will be dismantled and checked for any underlying issues that would not otherwise be uncovered
- Usually done when there are issues with the air con such as leakage or loud noises

Is your air conditioner not as cold as before, or making loud noises? Your air con, like any other machinery, needs regular maintenance and cleaning. One of the most effective ways to do that is a chemical overhaul.

- Each part of the air con, from the front panel, to the air filter and drainage pipe, will be dismantled, inspected and cleaned
- Any faulty or malfunctioning parts will be repaired or replaced
- Any accumulation of grime or dust within the parts will be cleaned chemically
- All electrical apparatus and connections will be checked and dried before the assembly of the air con parts

This will ensure that the air con is clean and functions efficiently, which saves you money and keeps you healthy in the long run. You can then expect your air con system to run as good as new! 🥶 ❄️

Chemical overhauls are usually recommended when:
- There are obvious issues with your air con’s functions, such as reduced cooling, sudden increase in utility bills, strange noises or odours coming from your air con
- There is a blockage of the drainage pipe, which may cause leaking

It is recommended that you have your air conditioning systems serviced 3 – 4 times a year to maintain optimal efficiency of your system. The following is a non-exhaustive list of what Uniworks’ general servicing entails:

- Ensure all major electrical connections are secured, with no loose connections in the system
- To perform checking of both internal and external panels and covers for any damage
- To listen for unusual noises from the air con unit when it is in operation
- To perform thorough cleaning of the system’s filters
- To perform checks on the discharge pressure of the air conditioning and compressor system
- To perform cleaning of the evaporator coils in the air conditioning system
- To clear the system’s condensation drainage pan
- To flush and check for any condensation on water drainage pipe

Hence, it is important to be aware of what you need and the important things to note when buying an air con.

In the fifth and final part of our 5-parter series of Uniworks’ Did You Know, we highlight the importance of getting certified technicians for air con installations and maintenance.

After burning a hole in your pocket (for some) to invest in the comfort and cool factor for your home, you should ensure that your air con is properly installed. Make sure to check the qualification of your technicians installing your air con. If you stay in an HDB unit, your technician needs to be approved by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore to carry out air con works.

Watch the warranty: Pay close attention to the warranty of your air con. The different components will come with different warranty periods, and would also vary across brands.
