When people think about spill control, they often think about cleaning products and safe disposal procedures.

But the best spill response is preventing the spill from occurring in the first place.

A small fault in a container can become a major cleanup tomorrow. Beyond product loss, spills will cause slip hazards, environmental contamination, equipment damage, all adding up to costly downtime for your workplace.

Consider these preventative measures:
• Regular inspection of containers and equipment
• Proper storage and segregation of chemicals
• Secondary containment for high-risk liquids
• Good housekeeping practices
• Spill response training for employees

Spill kits are important, but they should never be your first line of defence. They are kept ready to serve as your last resort when a spill has already happened.

At United Resources, we don’t just support workplaces with spill control solutions. We provide training and site assessments to help organisations build a proactive approach to spill management.

Humans of UR: Zul

At United Resources, growth often begins with a willingness to learn. For Zul, that journey started behind the wheel of a delivery truck.

For Zul, the key to growth has always been saying yes to new challenges. That mindset helped him transition from straightforward delivery work into a role that now involves coordination, planning, and leading a team.

Interestingly, Zul does not define success with a single achievement or milestone.

"Success in my position is about handling things well and working with my team well every day. That’s what matters. My goal is to manage my team so well that they can work independently and responsibly. That’s when I’ll feel I’ve succeeded.”

That is why Zul constantly reminds his team:

“Don’t rush. Double-check, then check again. Consistency is the foundation of good operations."

Zul is candid about his challenges.

“My weakness was managing a team. Everyone has a different personality and way of working. They don’t think exactly like you do.”

He also credits the people around him.

“My friends, my manager Andrew, and warehouse supervisor Iskandar helped me a lot. We review problems together and find solutions. Their feedback helped turn my weaknesses into strengths.”

One of the biggest operational challenges each year is stock take. For him, stock take is an opportunity for a fresh start. “If you prepare well and maintain the standard afterwards, next year’s stock take becomes easier.”

Zul has also witnessed UR’s growth firsthand, including the move from multiple warehouse locations to a more streamlined setup.

“In the past we had four warehouse locations,” he recalls. “Our boss promised that one day everything would be consolidated. Now we’re down to two locations, and it’s much easier.”

“My boss kept his promise, and it’s my duty to make sure that effort doesn’t go to waste.”

If he could speak to himself on his first day at UR, Zul’s advice would be simple: work smart and hard to achieve your goals.

“I started from the bottom with a desire to prove myself. Always learn. Always improve."

Safety glasses and safety goggles may appear very similar, but they are designed with different applications and protection levels in mind.

Safety glasses are ideal for general protection against flying particles, dust, and light impact hazards. Often used by workers doing light industrial work, they are lightweight and comfortable.

Safety goggles provide a sealed fit around the eyes, offering higher protection the following hazards:

• Chemical splashes
• Fine dust and airborne particles
• High-risk grinding or cutting work
• Environments with liquid or v***r exposure

The key difference comes down to coverage and sealing. Safety glasses protect the eyes from forward-facing physical hazards, while goggles protect the entire eye area by limiting outside exposure.

Choosing the wrong type can leave workers exposed to unnecessary risk. The best eye protection depends on your workplaces’ hazards.

At UR, we help teams select the correct protection for their environment because clear vision starts with proper safety.

Your PAPR is only as good as its filter. Do you know if yours has already expired or become too saturated?

Tracking these things is difficult. We have a SMARTer way for you.

The CST ULTRA PAPR does more than you'd expect. It elevates powered air protection beyond filtration by giving users real-time visibility on filter usage via the CleanSpace SMART App.

With the app, users can:
-Set a filter service life (for example, 600 minutes of active use)
-View a live countdown of remaining filter life
-Receive an automatic alarm when it is time to change the filter

Manual tracking and guesswork are things of the past. The SMART App delivers clear, accurate information that's accessible at any time.

Beyond personal filter tracking, the SMART App also provides the following general insights, useful for supervisors and users alike:

-Filter usage data across all connected users
-Battery status and system alerts
-Maintenance and compliance visibility

This allows supervisors and safety teams to better manage equipment, ensure timely replacements, and maintain operational readiness.

And all this smart tracking is in service of the ULTRA's lightweight, hose-free design, allowing the respirator to provide a comfortable experience even in the most demanding of environments.

When working at height, the first step to working well is ascending safely.
Vertical lifeline systems provide continuous fall protection for workers climbing ladders, towers, tanks, and elevated structures. Unlike basic cable setups or temporary anchoring methods, certified vertical lifelines are engineered to arrest falls safely while allowing smooth movement during ascent and descent.

A proper vertical lifeline system includes:
• Certified anchorage points
• Guided fall arrest devices
• Engineered cable or rail systems
• Energy absorption components
• Regular inspection and maintenance

At United Resources, we believe that vertical lifeline solutions, when paired with annual inspections and compliance checks to ensure the system continues to work, is an essential part of any workplace that involves elevated work.

It might surprise you, but there is no perfect safety glove. Safety gloves are specifically designed to ward against a chosen hazard.

That’s why choosing the right glove for your workplace’s needs is so important: the wrong glove might be worse than no glove at all.

Different work environments require different types of hand protection:
• Cut resistant gloves help protect against sharp edges and metal handling
• Chemical resistant gloves are designed for handling solvents, oils, and hazardous substances
• Impact gloves reduce injury from knocks, vibrations, and heavy handling work
• Heat resistant gloves protect against hot surfaces and thermal exposure
• General purpose gloves provide grip and everyday mechanical protection

At United Resources, we support a wide range of glove solutions for marine, industrial, and MRO environments, including internationally trusted brands and our very own URSAFE.

The best glove is not necessarily the thickest or toughest. It is the one designed for the specific hazard and task at hand.

It was a great experience visiting our partner Singapore Maritime Week to show our support at their booth!

We are excited to see growing interest in smarter marine safety solutions, especially the robotic smart lifebuoy, designed to improve man overboard response to save lives.

This powered device can swiftly reach a casualty in the water, providing flotation support at the crucial moments where rescue is still possible.

This is a strong example of how innovation can enhance both safety and operational readiness in the maritime industry.

Always good to reconnect with partners, exchange ideas, and see how technology continues to shape safer marine operations!
