AIM Biotech is thrilled to continue our work with Nikon Instruments. As part of this ongoing collaboration, Nikon has leveraged their world-class biological imaging expertise in combination with AIM Biotech’s advanced Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) model to create an optimized process for assessing both the neurotherapeutic transport efficiency of investigative drugs, and the pathological neurovascular functions of various disease states. Check out the latest application note from Nikon and AIM scientists using the Nikon AX/AX R Confocal Microscope and AIM Biotech’s human BBB co-culture model to quantify permeability and identify structures of the 3D microenvironment: https://bit.ly/3UeHiFF

We often talk about how the 3D co-culture nature of assays better mimics the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here, we have an example of a group using melanoma spheroids in a cancer-on-a-chip model based on AIM Biotech's idenTx platform in a way that highlights the value of a more realistic TME for investigating new therapies.

The authors demonstrate that the presence of stromal fibroblasts in the model is sufficient to inhibit the infiltration and tumor killing effects of NK-92 cells as an adoptive cell therapy approach. See their study here: https://www.mdpi.com/2306-5354/10/1/52

Check out this publication in Nature Communications from the Pavesi Lab, which includes a 3D cytotoxicity assay based on AIM Biotech's idenTx platform. The team's results suggest a suggest a way to boost the efficacy of TCR or CAR-based cancer treatments, potentially reducing the need for multiple rounds of treatment. For in-vitro of -killing treatments, functional vasculature is key to understanding real-world efficacy. See how cancer-killing immune cells can't permeate the non-vascularized tumoroid on the left, but can attack the core of the vascularized tumoroid on the right. AIM Biotech's organiX platform enables a straightforward and reliable way to create tumor models with functional, perfusable vasculature, as shown in the center. Want to know more? Consider an immune-competent environment with functional vasculature for your immune- assays. What if that environment supported human or patient biopsy tissue up to 2mm in diameter? The organiX platform from AIM Biotech can do just that. Learn more about how organiX can humanize your drug development and clinical decision making at aimbiotech.com.
