The Spectral Detective for Lung Cancer Screening via Extracellular Fluid
🔬 A Single Drop of Culture Medium – Lung Cancer Cells Cannot Hide!

Abnormal metabolism of tumor cells alters the chemical composition of the extracellular fluid. High-resolution NIR spectroscopy combined with wavelet packet transform can resolve subtle spectral changes of metabolites such as proteins and lactate in the extracellular fluid. Studies have shown that this technology achieves a 100% classification accuracy between lung cancer cells and normal extracellular fluid. More intriguingly, lactate released by cancer cells disrupts the hydrogen bond network of water molecules, and the resulting structural changes in water itself can serve as a sensitive probe for cancer detection. This technology opens a new pathway for non-invasive, ultra-early cancer screening.

The Chemical Archivist Deciphering Dinosaur Fossils
🦕 Chemical Information from Millions of Years Ago, Revealed at a Glance by Spectroscopy!

The residual organic matter, mineral alteration products, and trace elements preserved in paleontological fossils record the ecological information of dinosaurs during their lifetime and the burial environment. A handheld near-infrared analyzer can non-destructively scan the fossil surface to identify collagen degradation products (characteristic peaks at 1650–1700nm) and the mineral spectral signatures of calcite/apatite (in the 1400–1500nm region), revealing the original preservation state and burial history of the fossils. When combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry, researchers can obtain chemical composition maps without destructive sampling, providing strong evidence for fossil classification, dietary inference, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction—making silent fossils "speak."

🐷 Just back from Bac Ninh | IAS brought near-infrared rapid testing to Vietnam's pig farming industry

On July 29, the first stop of the three-city Vietstock 2026 pre-show roadshow — the "Bac Ninh Pig Farming Technology Seminar" — concluded at the Vuon Xanh Luxury Hotel. IAS also brought the IAS-5100 and MONET-R to the event.

Standing at our booth that day: on stage, experts from the Vietnam Livestock Association and the National Institute of Animal Sciences were presenting on "probiotics to replace antibiotics, thermal imaging for early disease screening, and electronic traceability"; off stage, the room was packed with feed-mill quality controllers, pig farm owners, and cooperative heads — and the question they asked most around our instruments was exactly "how much protein, how much oil, and is the moisture stable in our raw materials?"

Why is this such a pressing question? A few numbers tell the story:
🔹 Bac Ninh is a major pig-farming hub in the north, with around 1.15 million heads in stock and about 395,000 tons of pork output in 2026〔provincial Department of Agriculture〕;
🔹 In the first half of 2026, nationwide African Swine Fever outbreaks reached 697 cases across 28 provinces, up 60% year-on-year〔Ministry of Agriculture〕;
🔹 Feed raw materials are heavily import-dependent (about 24.78 million tons / $8.2 billion imported in 2025), so costs shift at a moment's notice.

And within pig-farming costs, feed accounts for 60–70%. When the protein, fat, and moisture of raw materials (corn, soybean meal, fishmeal, bran) fluctuate, the formula loses accuracy — and money quietly leaks away.

This is exactly the value we demonstrated over and over on site with the IAS-5100 / MONET-R:
✅ Test protein, fat (oil), moisture, and fiber in under 1 minute;
✅ Control raw materials batch by batch at the feed mill or farm — no more "formulating by experience";
✅ Optimize the formula → directly cut costs and stabilize nutrition;
✅ Traceable data → perfectly echoes the electronic traceability and food safety emphasized throughout the event.

We reached a consensus with several feed-mill quality controllers: control the raw-material composition, and you control both cost and herd health. As technology reshapes Vietnam's pig farming industry, NIR rapid testing is moving from "optional" to "essential."

The Spectral Sorter for Photovoltaic Module Recycling
☀️ End‑of‑Life Solar Panels – Precisely Dismantled and Recycled!

Millions of tons of end‑of‑life photovoltaic modules are generated each year. The biggest challenge in recycling lies in separating the EVA encapsulant from the glass and solar cells. A near‑infrared hyperspectral imaging system scans crushed particles layer by layer, rapidly identifying residual encapsulant attachments and accurately distinguishing glass, silicon wafers, and backsheet materials. Combined with machine learning algorithms that process spectral data in real time, the system achieves a classification accuracy of over 95%, supporting large‑scale recycling lines. The material recovery rate target exceeds 95%, contributing to a circular economy. This technology ensures that every solar panel in the “urban mine” can be efficiently dismantled and fully utilized.

The Rapid Screener for Soil Microplastics
🌾 Invisible Plastic Particles, Precisely Locked by Spectroscopy!

Microplastics have silently invaded farmland soils, threatening crop safety and ecosystems. Traditional detection relies on manual counting under a microscope, which is time‑consuming and labor‑intensive. A portable NIR device can directly scan soil samples in the field, using the characteristic absorption peaks of polyethylene and polypropylene microplastics in the 1200‑1400nm range for rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis. Studies have confirmed that in specific soil types, NIR can achieve a quantitative accuracy for microplastics with an R² exceeding 0.988. This technology moves microplastic pollution surveys from the laboratory to the field, providing an efficient monitoring tool for agricultural ecological safety.
