SAS Asia – Meeting the People
Today we are pleased to introduce Kah Ngee from our Accounts Department!
From managing financial processes to supporting day-to-day operations, she plays a vital role in the company’s success. In this employee spotlight, we are excited to introduce one of our dedicated team members who consistently demonstrates commitment, efficiency, and teamwork in everything she does.
1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role?
Hi, I'm Kah Ngee. I've been working in Finance and Accounting for more than 40 years, mainly in the FMCG industry.
At SAS, I jokingly describe myself as the "Chief Data Entry Officer" because a big part of my role involves bookkeeping and keeping the numbers in order. But beyond that, I’m responsible for Singapore GST submissions, withholding tax matters, and assisting in SAS’s accounts, including management reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance.
2. What do you enjoy most about working in accounts?
What I enjoy most is that accounting is like solving a puzzle. Every number tells part of a story, and when you put all the pieces together, you get a picture of how the business is performing.
I also enjoy looking for ways to improve processes and make work more efficient. There's something rewarding about finding a simpler way to do things—especially when it saves time and reduces manual work.
3. What has been your biggest or proudest learning experience in your career so far?
One thing I'm grateful for is having had opportunities to work across different industries and systems throughout my career. Each role has taught me something new and helped me grow both professionally and personally.
A particularly memorable experience was being involved in an ERP system upgrade project and a treasury project. The two projects gave me the chance to step outside my usual accounting responsibilities and learn how different parts of the business work together.
4. What is your favourite way to unwind after month-end closing?
My favourite way to unwind isn’t necessarily after month-end closing—it’s something I try to do regularly. I like to slow things down and recharge. A good spa treatment is probably my favourite way to relax and reset.
I also enjoy doing Sudoku puzzles and colouring. They help me switch off from work and focus on something calming and enjoyable.
5. What advice would you give to somebody looking to enter this industry?
Be curious and keep learning. Accounting is much more than numbers—it's about understanding how a business operates and how decisions affect the overall performance of the company.
Don't be afraid to ask questions or take on new challenges. And one practical tip: get comfortable with Excel. It may not solve all your problems, but it will definitely make your life easier!
