How do you teach tactics to young players?
Not with formations or complex instructions.
You start with principles, progressing from general to operational to fundamental, and later to more specific concepts.
The images show this progression: first players understand the game, then how to act, and only later how to organize themselves tactically.
👉 General principles (5–9 years)
👉 Operational principles (10–13 years)
👉 Fundamental principles (14+)
If you skip steps, players don’t really understand the game, they just follow instructions.
Your drills should reflect this progression.
When you understand the principles, it becomes easier to decide what to train and how to structure sessions.
