HYDROGEN EXPO is the largest Italian exhibition and conference entirely dedicated to technologies for the development of the hydrogen supply chain.

Today in Rotterdam, our Head of Research and Development, Jure Robič, held a technical presentation on available technologies, costs, and efficiency considerations in hydrogen purification.

»The cost of nitrogen supply is too high.«
This fact led a company in the plastic polymer industry to look for a more economical solution.

Operating with a leased cryogenic tank resulted in significant ongoing expenses, especially due to the high and continuous nitrogen demand in production.
To reduce costs and gain more control over supply, the decision was made to implement an compressed air station with Nitrogen generators and boosters by OMEGA AIR.
The system is designed as a complete, integrated solution. It includes a rotary screw compressor, pressure vessel, multi-stage filtration with fine filtration down to 0.01 micron, an RDT 300 refrigeration dryer, and a WOS water oil separator. Nitrogen is generated using three NM-GEN 5 membrane generators, supported by a buffer pressure vessel, booster, and high-pressure storage racks.
The installation operates across two lines. A low-pressure H24 line ensures a constant nitrogen flow for daily production needs. In parallel, a high-pressure 300 bar line—equipped with two OMEGA AIR cylinder bundles—is used weekly for tank inerting, ensuring safe preparation and handling.
The NM-GEN 5 membrane generators achieve 95% nitrogen purity with a total flow rate of 56 m³/h, meeting the process requirements.
Nitrogen generation systems can be adapted to different operational needs, from smaller standalone units to complex industrial systems such as this one, combining multiple components into a reliable and cost-efficient solution.
