Cirrus project

Cirrus project Cirrus Project is Slovenian's first rocket program. We are building a rocket to reach altitude of 100km above sea level. Currently we are testing Cirrus 2.



Ekipa Cirrus smo študentje različnih fakultet, kateri gradimo raketo, ki bo dosegla višino 100 km, kjer se tudi uradno začne vesolje. Raketa bo lahko prenašala tovor, opremljena bo z raziskovalnim modulom, kamerami, celo z malim satelitom.


Že od malih nog smo nadvušeni nad tehnologijo, ampak velikokrat nismo imeli možnosti, da bi svoje ideje realizerali. Zdaj pa smo

stvari vzeli v svoje roke. Tako bomo s pomočjo Zavoda 404, ki nam omogoča delo v delavnicah, uporabo CNC rezkarja, 3D printerja in mnogo več, uresničili naš cilj. Faze:

Cirrus 0,5 - Pri projektu Cirurs 0,5 smo testirali nov timer za izmet padala, ki ga aktivira "jumper" in novo padalo. Polet rakete je bil uspešen. Poganjal jo je motor na trdo gorivo kategorije G. Video si lahko ogledate na našem Youtube kanalu. Cirrus 1 - pri Cirrus 1 smo testirali radijski oddajnik v špici rakete in nov motor kategorije I. Motor je dosegal delovni tlak v komori pri 80 barih. Polet rakete je bil uspešen, vendar je zaradi premočnega vetra nismo našli. Cirrus 1,5 - Prva raketa, ki je bila v celoti iz steklenih vlaken. Gre za 1/3 celotne velikosti Cirrus 2 rakete. Poganjal jo je raketni motor kategorije G. Namen te rakete je bil test novega barometričnega višinomera Stratologger CF. S težavo pri priklopu na baterijo polet ni uspel. V kratkem ponovno testiramo, če višinomer zares deluje. Cirrus 2 (trenutni projekt 90% končan) - Naredili smo 2m visoko raketo, ki bo opremljena z GPSom, barometričnem višinomerom Stratologger CF in rezervnim timerjom. Raketo bo poganjal motor kategorije J s srednjo potisno silo 960N. Gorivo je inhibirano iz zunanje strani in ima centralni kanal. Gre za 4 bate, ki so nameščneni v motor. We are a Slovenian student rocketry team. Our goal is to launch a rocket that will reach an altitude of 100 km, where outer space officially begins. The rocket will be able to carry payload, such as scientific instruments, cameras and possibly a small satellite. We have all been technology enthusiasts since our childhood, but usually we did not have the opportunity to realize all of our ideas. However, with this project we can combine our knowledge, ideas and resources and achieve much more. Through work we also get experience in the fields of mechanical engineering, electronics, chemistry etc., which we could not get during studying at university. Plan:

Cirrus 0,5 - In Cirrus 0,5 we tried to test our rocket deployment timer and new parachutes. The flight was successful. Rocket was powered by a G - class sugar rocket motor. You can see the video our Youtube channel. Cirrus 1 - In this project we were testing new radio transmitter and new I class sugar motor. The motor reached chamber pressure of 80 bars. Flight was succesful but we couldn't find the rocket. Cirrus 2 (current project 90% done) - We built 2 m long rocket to test GPS tracking system and Stratologger CF altimeter. Whole rocket is made of fiberglass. The rocket will be powered by J960 sugar rocket motor. 4 - bates grain outside inhibited with central core. Nekaj utrinkov s spusta, na katerem smo testirali elektroniko z avtomatsko proženje padala, in naredili statični test motorja razreda J namenjenega raketi Cirrus 2. Zdaj pa je čas za nadgradnjo in izboljšave ;)

After a while we did some work on Cirrus 2.

Today we painted the lower body of the rocket in black colour. We are looking forward testing K - class rocket motor which is designed for Cirrus 2. Stay tuned.

On friday we launch 1/3 scale Cirrus 2 rocket, powered by G-class sugar motor. We were testing electronic bay for full scale Cirrus 2 rocket. Here are some pictures of the flight.
