Have you thought about data protection?
Recently, I’ve been talking to various clients. I was most interested in their approach to using AI in translation.
What does it mean to use AI in translation?
What is translation?
Translation is the transfer of the meaning of a text from a source into a target language. If the content is not transferred in a way for a reader in a certain country to understand, the translation lacks quality and your product or service is non-functional, which subsequently results in low sale.
But, that’s not all. AI uses a global server. Imagine having your own server, which you share with everyone the moment you start using AI.
In texts you send your colleagues or clients, which don’t contain ideas, information and data relevant for the future of your company, AI can be used without exception. But what about when applying to a tender or when you want to launch a new product or service which no one has heard of before? We know that legal practice uses a systemically ethical approach to client data, since they, as lawyers, are particularly bound to data protection during proceedings. But, doesn’t this also apply to entrepreneurs?
In the past, the term “attribute” was used in translation, which means that 30 years ago our tools were already able to determine the application of certain words or phrases to a specific client. The foregoing guaranteed consistency and also protected the client against the use (or abuse) of their data by the competition. If data was shared during the translation process, important information could be forwarded to unauthorised persons.
You have to know that when using AI, your competition can access your data.
What is the safest way of using AI?
It’s a matter of choice, really. If you think or decide that your data is irrelevant and may be generally accessible, then use AI. But if you develop innovations and want them to be launched when you see it fit, then you won’t just close ranks in your company, but also limit the dissemination of data to others, including AI.
We can help you when making these tough decisions. In the past and even today, we’ve gained the trust of companies which know how important their data is. It’s not merely NDAs, but also the trust established in the field of data protection that somewhat distinguishes us from the competition which regularly exploits AI. We use it too, but thoughtfully.
To this end, we know the procedures and safe methods of using new technologies that are talked about so frequently. If your company develops AI to help you translate, the question of how to address data protection may be a topic worthy of consideration. The rule that “an investment in the future must be thoughtful and well-organised” will further apply. In short, we can sometimes feel as if we have to be clairvoyant when it comes to development and innovation.
