DARS, Slovenia’s national motorway operator, officially opened its new Regional Traffic Control Centre in Maribor on Tuesday. The new centre will oversee and manage traffic across approximately 250 kilometres of motorways and expressways in northeast Slovenia, ensuring safer, more efficient, and fully coordinated 24/7 traffic operations.

NTR engineering is proud to have contributed the modular data center infrastructure that supports this technologically advanced mission-critical environment. Designed and built for high availability, resilience, and future scalability, the solution, delivered in partnership with -ing and , provides the robust digital backbone required for continuous traffic monitoring, tunnel supervision, real-time signalisation management, and rapid incident response.

We are proud to announce the completion of another international project — our third data center designed for scientific supercomputing, following VEGA, Slovenia’s national supercomputer hosted at IZUM in Maribor, and FRIDA at the University of Ljubljana. 🙌
The Slovak Academy of Sciences entrusted us with the design and implementation of a high-performance data center PERUN supporting the operational and future expansion requirements of the Slovak supercomputing environment. The facility was engineered to accommodate the demanding power densities of modern HPC workloads, ensure energy-efficient and redundant cooling, and provide the high availability required for continuous scientific computing – while enabling modular scalability for future expansion. 🚀
Final system testing is currently underway, marking the last step before operational handover.
A big thank you and congratulations to our entire NTR Engineering team, whose know-how, precision, and dedication once again made the successful delivery of a complex HPC infrastructure project possible, as well as to our partner Eviden, whose supercomputer Perun, with a capacity of up to 14.5 Petaflops is the beating heart of the project. 👏

At the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science (Fakulteta za računalništvo in informatiko), artificial intelligence has been a core research focus for several decades. The rapid growth in the number of researchers and the increasing scope of machine learning projects resulted in a sharp rise in demand for high-performance computing capacity. The existing data infrastructure required a comprehensive upgrade that would remain fully compatible with the established IT environment while enabling long-term scalability and further expansion of supercomputing capabilities over the next decade.

To meet these requirements, NTR Engineering designed and executed A high-performance modular hybrid container data center engineered for demanding AI and HPC environments. The prefabricated modular architecture enables the concurrent operation of airand liquid-cooled IT cabinets and allows for a gradual increase in liquid-cooled loads without significant changes to the core infrastructure.

Arnes Data Centre – Update: resilient, efficient and - green!

The construction of the new Arnes data center is in full swing! Across two floors totaling 1,800 m², we are installing equipment for the power, cooling, and communications infrastructure.
Engineered and developed by NTR Engineering and partners Advant and Energovat, and constructed by Pomgrad, the Arnes data center is designed with sustainability at its core. Directly connected via a dedicated power line to the Mariborski Otok hydropower plant, it will harness the renewable energy potential of the Drava River. 💚💧
The project also envisions the recovery and reuse of surplus heat generated by the facility and the supercomputer within the district heating system of the Municipality of Maribor. 🏡 🌡️

Arnes Data Centre – Update: No longer working on the walls — we’re already inside them!

The construction of the new data centre has now moved indoors. The facility, engineered by NTR Engineering in partnership with Energovat and Avant, and constructed by Pomgrad, is taking its final shape, while equipment for the power, cooling, and communications infrastructure is already being delivered and installed.
Designed in accordance with the latest standards, the data centre will serve as an integrated hub for national supercomputing capacities and Slovenia’s AI Factory. It will provide long-term storage of research data, colocation hosting for equipment owned by Slovenian universities and research institutions, as well as associated cloud services. At the same time, it will enable the application of AI beyond the scientific domain, contributing to the democratization of science and implementation of open science principles — ensuring that data generated through publicly funded research is accessible to all.
We are proud to contribute to a project that strengthens Slovenia’s research infrastructure and supports the development of high-performance computing and AI ecosystems!

⚡️☀️ Krvavi Potok, Slovenia’s largest solar power plant, has officially obtained its operating permit and is now fully operational. With an installed capacity of 7 MW and an expected annual production of 8,400 MWh, it will supply clean energy to approximately 2,400 householdS, strengthening Slovenia’s renewable energy landscape. 🏡
