Paper production has got more than 400 years of tradition in Slovakia. Very good production conditions and sufficiency of raw materials allow establishment of a number of paper mills in different regions of Slovakia. One paper mill arose in Ružomberok – Jazierce even before 1720. New factories for paper, cellulose and pulp were created at the end of the 19th century. They also quickly developed. M
anufacturing of paper bags started from the early 20th century and until the early 21th century they were produced in the Obaly Sólo factory – a subsidiary company of Mondi SCP. The company Harmanec – Bags, s.r.o. was founded August 23, 2005. This company repurchased manufacturing of paper bags. I t is a part of Slovak industrial and investment holding ECO – INVEST´S portfolio and together with German partner Meyer/Stemmle continued further development and expanding of paper bags production with a focus on food purposes. There was a buyout in 2012 and ECO – INVEST became
the sole shareholder of the company. In July 2013 company moved to the newly built modern premises in Myjava and simultaneously changed its name to ECO – BAGS. Which better reflects not only a growing trend in organic paper packagings of food products, but also its affiliation to an investment group.
