📢 WE ARE HIRING: Chief Operating Officer (COO) 📢
Freetown Waste Transformers (FWT SL Ltd) is appointing an executive team to lead our growth — and we are looking for a COO to own the customer journey from first outreach to a paying, served and retained customer.
📍 Location: Freetown, Sierra Leone, with regular field presence in Block 6 and Ward C
👤 Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
👥 Direct reports: Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, Admin & HR Manager
🏢 Grade: A2 (executive)
💼 Terms: Full-time, permanent, subject to probation. Salary within Grade A2 band, commensurate with experience.

THE ROLE
This is a new executive role. You will lead Operations, Commercial and Admin & HR through their managers, make the handoffs between them work, and deliver customer growth and service targets, so the CEO can focus on strategy, partners, investment and the Board.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
✅ Lead the Operations, Commercial and Admin & HR Managers, setting clear targets and reviewing performance weekly
✅ Grow active paying customers across Block 6 and Ward C, with a strong commercial and institutional mix
✅ Deliver dependable collection: 95%+ on-time pickups, 98%+ recorded on tablets, missed pickups recovered within 24 hours
✅ Own service standards linking sales and operations: first payment within 24 hours, activation within 48 hours, first pickup within 7 days
✅ Ensure route and crew capacity is ready before outreach begins in each new micro-zone, especially Ward C
✅ Oversee fleet availability, maintenance, fuel efficiency, health and safety, and disposal-site compliance
✅ Ensure HR policies, contracts and practices are current and compliant, and run the annual appraisal cycle
✅ Run departments within approved budgets, working with the Finance Manager on collections, arrears and route economics
✅ Chair the daily management huddle and submit a monthly operating report to the CEO
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
🔹 Degree in business, management, engineering, logistics or related field
🔹 At least 8 years’ experience, including 3–5 years in senior management running field operations and sales teams
🔹 Track record of hitting customer growth and service targets in service, utility, logistics or distribution
🔹 Experience leading managers and a large field workforce
🔹 Confidence managing with data and dashboards, and comfort with digital tools
🔹 Commercial judgement, operational discipline, integrity, and calm under pressure
IT WILL HELP IF YOU HAVE
➕ MBA or relevant professional qualification
➕ Experience in waste management, sanitation or municipal services in Sierra Leone or the region
➕ Experience working with city or district councils and community stakeholders
