I have always said this about our SRE philosophy:

Protect the infrastructure perimeter by trying to destroy it.

Then, while reading The Dream, I came across this:

«“The emphasis had always been on defending. Sacchi’s philosophy was to defend by attacking.”»

Different world. Different arena. Same underlying principle.

It feels like another vindication of something I increasingly believe: the digital world keeps discovering principles that the physical world has already figured out, tested, refined and mastered over decades.

Resilience isn't built by merely protecting something. You attack it. Test it. Find where it breaks. Learn from it. Make it stronger. Then repeat.

What fascinates — and gratifies — me even more is being able to connect these dots across seemingly unrelated worlds.

Football. Leadership. Management. SRE. Engineering. Systems thinking.

Every book, leader, manager and experience becomes another dot collected. And sometimes, years later, two completely unrelated dots suddenly connect.

Sacchi defended by attacking.
SRE protects by trying to destroy.

Different playing fields. Same game. 🙂

A birthday present to myself. 🎂📖⚽

The Dream: Breaking Champions League Records — Carlo Ancelotti.

There are managers who win.
There are managers who build teams.
And then there are those who seem to understand the human system behind winning.

Ancelotti has always fascinated me for that reason.

Different clubs. Different countries. Different generations of players. Different dressing rooms. Yet, an extraordinary ability to adapt, earn trust, manage world-class talent and keep winning at the highest level.

Seven Champions League titles — two as a player and five as a manager.

As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about leadership, teams, culture, systems and sustained performance, this felt like the right book to gift myself this birthday.

Not just another football book.

A chance to get inside the mind of someone who made winning repeatedly look remarkably calm.

After nearly a decade, I bought a physical book for myself.

I wouldn't call myself a voracious reader, but I am a fairly consistent one. Most years, I manage to read between 12 and 18 books. For the last 10+ years, however, almost all of that reading has happened on a Kindle.

There was a time when I owned quite a collection of books. In fact, my wife used to jokingly tell me that one day I would need to buy a separate house just to store them because she was running out of places to keep my books. 😄

When we moved from Chennai to Madurai around 2012–13, I switched to Kindle for convenience. It took me a while to get used to it, and while I grew to appreciate carrying an entire library in my hand, I never completely stopped missing the experience of a physical book—the feel of turning pages, the smell of fresh paper, and the simple joy of holding a book while reading.

This particular book has been on my radar for a while. I loved the movie adaptation and was excited to discover that it was originally a novel. I waited for months hoping a Kindle edition would show up, but it never did. Eventually, I gave up waiting and ordered the physical copy.

So here I am, holding my first newly purchased physical book in almost a decade, excited not just about the story inside but also about reconnecting with an old habit in its original form.

Will I start building a massive collection again?

Probably not.

I'd like to remain happily married. 😄

⏳ A Little Time Travel Moment…

Last weekend was a bit special.

I spent some time with .azar —one of my old dance students from the early days. He was the choreographer for the Karuppu movie audio launch here in Madurai 🎬 I dropped in for the rehearsals on Saturday and the event on Sunday.

Somewhere in between all that… it felt like I accidentally stepped into a time machine.

Watching him handle things now—confident, sharp, owning the stage—it honestly made me pause. I’ve seen where he started… and where he’s reached now. And that journey? That’s all him. Pure hard work, smart choices, and years of learning from the right people 🔥

I’ll be honest—when he introduces me to others as his master, I feel a bit awkward 😅

Because what he is today… I’ve done very little for that.

Maybe I was there when the spark started. That initial nudge towards dance.

But today? He’s a full-blown wildfire 🔥
Built by his own grind and the amazing mentors and dance masters he’s worked with over the years.

Still… feels nice to know I was there when it all began 😊

We did this crazy Sunday midnight / early Monday morning ride to drop Azhar in Trichy 🚗—tiring, but one of those drives you don’t forget.

Funny how life works… sometimes you don’t realize the impact you’ve made until years later. 🚀
