This is by far the most effective way to root your Colocasia fresh cuttings:
Materials required:
- Leca/Pumic Stone,
- Sphagnum Moss,
- Container without hole,
- Rubber band,
- Long transparent plastic bag (wide enough to wrap the container),
- Stick (to hold the bag up).
1. Fill 3/4 to 4/5 of the container with Leca/Pumic stone,
2. Position the cutting directly on top of leca in the center,
3. Fill in the sides with the moss (not too compact, enough to hold the cutting upright) and covering just the bulb and no higher than that,
4. Pour water till it sits at 1 inch at the bottom,
5. Insert stick,
6. Wrap the whole thing container with the bag and secure it with the rubber band,
7. Keep it at room temperature in indirect light, never in complete shade or direct sunlight.
8. Always remember to label your plants if you are processing multiple pieces!
The roots in the photo took about a week, usually less, depending on how strong the cutting is.
Rescue of rotting or dying Colocasia plants requires a different method with varying success rate, will share in the future!
