Heterojunction (HJT) solar cells represent a cutting-edge photovoltaic technology that combines the benefits of monocrystalline silicon wafers with ultra-thin film layer deposition techniques. A wider energy bandgap is provided at the heterojunctions (from crystalline to amorphous) leading to several advantages.

Key superiority is enhanced light absorption resulting in significant boost in overall efficiency. HJT solar cells can achieve record efficiencies exceeding 26%, compared to the typical 22-23% range of p-n junction cells.

HJT solar cells exhibit a lower temperature coefficient compared to conventional counterparts, making them more resistant to performance degradation at high temperatures. This translates to more power generation, especially in hot regions where the sun blazes.

They demonstrate superior performance under low-light conditions, making them ideal for applications where sunlight intensity varies throughout the day or under cloudy weather conditions.

The choice of encapsulant material is critical in determining the overall efficiency and durability of solar modules. Encapsulant features like high optical transparency, UV stability, good thermal conductivity and electrical insulation help to unlock the true potential of HJT solar cells.

The damp heat test of solar PV modules is performed by applying 85°C temperature with a relative humidity of 85% for an uninterrupted cycle of 1,000 hours .

This test simulates the combined effects of high temperature and humidity that solar modules may encounter during their lifetime.

Evaulation parameters include power output trend over the test period, insulation resistance to check eletrical integrity and visual inspections to detect defects like delamination, corrosion, or any kind of structural deterioration. Among other rigorous testing protocols, damp heat test is essential to ensure the durability of solar installations in real-world operating conditions.
