The long-awaited BIIC 2026 Spring Dinner is finally here! Last Friday, the whole BIIC family gathered for our once-a-year reunion, enjoying a rare night to relax and catch up together.

Huge thanks to Prof. Chi-Chun Li for making this amazing and surprise-filled night possible. Taking a break from our busy schedules to hang out like this truly felt special ˶ˊᵕˋ˵

This year’s raffle was next level! Starting from basic blue tickets, to pink cocktail tickets earned from drinks, and even golden alumni tickets—each round kept reshuffling everyone’s chances.

The “devil prize” had everyone praying not to get picked, and the Kahoot game was wild—the winner could literally throw away someone else’s tickets and add to their own. So intense ><

恭喜允彣順利通過口試!

他以「利用多實例學習實現異常呼吸音事件的時間定位」為題,
探討如何在僅具錄音層級標註的情況下,精準辨識異常呼吸音發生的時間位置。

本研究提出一套弱監督多實例學習(MIL)框架,
透過滑動視窗切分音訊,在不依賴昂貴事件標註的前提下,
同時實現錄音分類與時間定位,大幅提升模型的實用性與可擴展性。

此外,研究結合元數據感知嵌入與類別一致性實例混合(CCIM),
有效降低不同錄音設備與臨床環境所帶來的偏差,
提升模型在跨資料集與真實臨床場域中的穩健性與泛化能力。

研究成果為自動化肺部聽診提供一個具成本效益且具解釋力的解決方案,
在臨床輔助診斷與智慧醫療應用上具有重要潛力。

Congratulations to Yun-Wen on successfully passing the defense!

This thesis, titled “Multiple Instance Learning for Temporal Localization of Abnormal Respiratory Sounds,” explores how to accurately identify when abnormal breathing events occur using only recording-level labels.

The study proposes a weakly supervised Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) framework that segments audio into sliding windows, enabling both recording-level classification and temporal localization without the need for costly event-level annotations—significantly improving practicality and scalability.

In addition, the integration of metadata-aware embeddings and Class-Consistent Instance Mix (CCIM) helps reduce variability caused by different recording devices and clinical conditions, enhancing robustness and generalization across datasets and real-world scenarios.

This work presents a cost-effective and interpretable solution for automated lung auscultation, with strong potential for clinical support and smart healthcare applications.

BIIC Lab 很高興與全球人壽展開產學合作,共同推動「AI 智能語音質檢」系統正式上線。此次合作也受到五家媒體報導。系統結合語音辨識與語意分析技術,協助檢查電訪內容是否符合規範,讓服務流程更加透明與可追溯,也讓研究成果真正落地到金融保險場域中。

透過系統化的質檢機制,電訪內容能從過去的抽樣檢查提升到更全面的檢視,也能更快發現異常並啟動後續改善。不僅提升作業效率,也強化整體服務品質與內控流程,讓科技在實務應用中發揮更大的價值。

BIIC Lab is pleased to collaborate with TransGlobe Life on an industry–academia project to launch an AI-powered voice quality assurance system. The collaboration has also been featured by five media outlets. By combining speech recognition and semantic analysis technologies, the system helps review telemarketing calls for regulatory compliance, making service processes more transparent and traceable while bringing research into real-world financial and insurance applications.

Through a more systematic quality assurance approach, call reviews can move beyond traditional sampling toward broader coverage, allowing potential issues to be identified and addressed more quickly. This not only improves operational efficiency but also strengthens service quality and internal control processes, demonstrating how technology can create real value in practical applications.

Congratulations to Prof. Chi-Chun Lee on receiving the 2024 NSTC Telecommunications Division Outstanding Poster Award. The awarded poster presents results from one of our NSTC projects, “Stress Detection in Daily Life: Robust Longitudinal Modeling and Privacy-Preserving Algorithms.” Our work focuses on building reliable and privacy-aware AI models for real-world environments. Being recognized at the annual project showcase is a meaningful affirmation of our team’s efforts and research direction.

恭喜實驗室的博後 簡婉軒博士,近期正式獲聘為國立陽明交通大學電機系新任教授。

婉軒在分享這份喜悅時,也特別感謝李祈均老師一路以來的栽培。她提到,從整個博士班研究到申請教職的過程中,多虧了老師悉心的提攜與引導,讓她能擁有紮實的能量迎接學術生涯的下一個階段。

Congratulations to our postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Wan-Hsuan Chien, on her recent appointment as a new faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYCU.

While celebrating this milestone, Wan-Hsuan expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Professor Chi-Chun Lee for his unwavering mentorship. She credits much of her growth to the Professor’s guidance throughout her PhD and the faculty application process, which provided the support and inspiration needed to reach this academic achievement.

Seeing her journey from the lab to the classroom is truly inspiring, and we are proud to celebrate this well-deserved success with her.
