POV: A cutting tool maker commuting by bike 🚴

Do you know how many bicycle parts are CNC machined?

I recently started biking to work.

At first, it was simply a way to get a little more exercise.

But then my manufacturing brain took over. 😂

I found myself looking at every component on the bike.

The hubs.

The crankset.

The drivetrain.

The pedals.

Many of these aluminum and titanium parts rely on precision machining to become what they are.

One of the things I enjoy about working in manufacturing is that it changes how you see the world.

You start noticing the engineering behind everyday products.

Things most people take for granted are often the result of countless details, processes, and people working behind the scenes.

Maybe that’s what makes manufacturing so rewarding.

The things we create don’t just stay in a factory.

They become part of someone’s commute, adventure, hobby, or daily life.

最近幫客戶趕了一批急件。
也發現近期越來越常遇到臨時急單的需求。

畫面上看起來，
只是一些已經包裝好、準備出貨的刀具。

但其實每一支刀具背後，
都經過了研磨、量測、檢查與確認。
每一個細節，都不能馬虎。

我們一直覺得，
出貨不是工作的結束，
而是客戶現場加工的開始。

所以在刀具交到客戶手上之前，每一個尺寸、每一個刃口、每一個包裝細節，
都是責任的一部分。

我們希望把該確認的細節做好，讓客戶收到的不只是一支刀，而是一份可以安心上機的穩定感。

有時候客戶會問我們：
「你們的刀具可以加工什麼材料？」

其實從比較一般的材料，
到比較硬、比較難加工的材料，
我們都有不同等級的刀具可以對應。

因為每一種材料的加工狀況不一樣，
不是所有情況都一定要用最高等級的刀具，
而是要看材料硬度、加工方式、機台條件，
再選一把比較適合的刀。

我們有適合一般加工使用的刀具，
也有可以對應到 HRC65–68 高硬度材料 的刀具。

對我們來說，
幫客戶選刀不只是看規格表，

今天花了一些時間，和客戶分享我們這幾年參與淨灘活動的經驗與資源。

聊了之後才知道，原來他們其實已經想舉辦企業淨灘活動好幾年了。

甚至曾經嘗試申請海域、研究流程，
但因為覺得前置作業太複雜，
最後一直沒有真正開始。

聽到這裡，我其實很有感觸。

因為很多企業不是不想做公益，
而是不知道第一步該怎麼走。

淨灘這件事，看起來好像需要處理很多行政流程、場地申請、物資安排與人員規劃。

但以我們這幾年參與下來的經驗，其實不一定需要那麼複雜。

如果是企業朋友想一起參與，
很多繁瑣的流程與前置作業，
其實都可以透過已經建立好的活動機制與協作資源來完成。

企業最重要的，反而是願意帶著人一起出現。

只要有人願意參與，
很多事情就會開始發生。

這幾年，我們從第一次參與、慢慢累積經驗，
到現在可以把流程、注意事項與實際心得分享給其他企業朋友。

我們很開心自己不只是參與者，
也能成為讓更多企業更容易開始的其中一個小小推力。

公益不一定要等到什麼都準備好了才開始。

有時候，只要先願意踏出第一步，
就會發現路上其實有很多人願意一起走。

Today, we spent some time sharing with a customer our experience and resources from the beach cleanup activities we have joined over the past few years.

During the conversation, we found out that they had actually been wanting to organize a corporate beach cleanup for several years.

They had even tried to apply for coastal area access and study the process,
but because the preparation seemed too complicated,
they were never able to truly get started.

Hearing this really touched me.

Because many companies are not unwilling to do good.
Sometimes, they simply do not know where to begin.

Beach cleanup may seem like something that requires a lot of administrative work, venue applications, supply preparation, and team planning.

But based on our experience over the past few years, it does not always have to be that complicated.

For companies that would like to take part,
many of the complicated procedures and preparations
can actually be supported through existing activity systems and collaborative resources.

What matters most for a company is the willingness to bring people together and show up.

When people are willing to participate,
many things naturally begin to happen.

Over the years, from joining our first beach cleanup to gradually gaining more experience,
we are now able to share the process, key reminders, and practical lessons we have learned with other companies.

We are grateful that we are not only participants,
but can also become a small driving force that helps more companies take the first step more easily.

Doing good does not have to wait until everything is perfectly prepared.

Sometimes, once you are willing to take the first step,
you will realize that there are many people along the way who are willing to walk with you.

To any companies that are interested in beach cleanup activities,
or have wanted to do it for a long time but are not sure how to begin,
we would be happy to connect and exchange ideas.

We are more than willing to share the experience we have gathered over the years,
so that more meaningful actions can happen more easily.

Before heading out, all you have to do is open the Pikmin map,
and suddenly, you have a whole group of cute little Pikmin following you.

I used to think exercise had to be something serious.

You had to go to the gym,
set aside time,
and have a lot of discipline.

But actually, simply walking a little more in your daily life
can be a great place to start.

Studies have shown that lower physical activity and muscle loss
may affect not only our physical condition,
but also brain function.

When your body moves,
it is not just your muscles doing the work.

Movement can also support focus, memory, learning,
and even your overall energy and mood.

Sometimes, what makes us slowly decline
is not just age.

It is that we have stopped using our bodies enough.

For most adults,
walking around 7,000 steps a day
has already been associated with lower health risks.

And for those who are less active,
even starting from a lower step count
and gradually moving more
can still make a meaningful difference.

So if you are like our editor,

感謝客戶信任，找我們訂製刀具。

最近在協助客戶討論製程優化時，
我們聽到客戶分享一個很實際的現場困擾：

原本使用的刀具尺寸公差不夠穩定，
上機後需要反覆補正很多次，
卻仍然無法達到理想的加工狀態。

看起來只是多調幾次刀，
但背後其實累積了很多成本：

工程師的時間、
現場人力、
電力消耗、
機台稼動率，
以及整體加工成本。

這次客戶使用的是專為製程設計的成型刀。

在討論過程中，
我們幾乎每天到客戶現場，
一起確認實際加工情形、機台狀態與補正需求。

也因為這次合作，
我們更深刻感受到：

不同刀具的尺寸穩定度，
會直接影響現場的補正量。

客戶原本使用他牌客製刀上機後，
Z 軸需要補正到約 30 條。

而我們這次的客製刀具，
依照客戶機台的偏擺量與現場條件調整後，
補正量從約 30 條降到 1 條內。

這個差異，也讓我們再次確認：
客製刀具真正的價值，
不只是把形狀做出來，
而是能不能更貼近客戶現場真正需要的加工條件。

我們不敢說一把刀能解決所有製程問題，
但我們相信，
一把真正適合現場條件的刀具，
可以幫工程師減少反覆校正，
也讓加工更穩定、更有效率。

不是做得特別，
而是更貼近客戶真正的加工需求。

Thank you to our customer for trusting us with this custom tool project.

Recently, while working with the customer on process optimization, they shared a very real challenge from the shop floor.

The tools they had been using were not stable enough in dimensional accuracy.
After being installed on the machine, the operators had to make repeated offset adjustments, but the result still did not reach the ideal machining condition.

At first glance, it may seem like just a few extra adjustments.
But in reality, it adds up to much more:

engineering time,
shop floor labor,
electricity consumption,
machine utilization,
and overall machining cost.

For this project, the customer needed a form tool designed specifically for their machining process.

Throughout the discussion, our team visited the customer’s site almost every day to better understand the actual machining conditions, machine status, and offset requirements.

This experience reminded us once again that:

the dimensional stability of a cutting tool directly affects the amount of adjustment required on the shop floor.

With the previous custom tool from another supplier, the customer had to adjust the Z-axis offset by around 30 microns.

With our custom-designed tool, after adjusting the tool dimensions according to the customer’s machine runout and actual machining conditions, the Z-axis offset was reduced to within 1 micron.

For us, this was a meaningful difference.

It also reinforced what we believe:

the value of a custom cutting tool is not just about making a special shape.
It is about making a tool that truly fits the customer’s process.

We would never say that one tool can solve every machining problem.
But we do believe that a tool designed around real shop floor conditions can help reduce repeated adjustments and support more stable, efficient machining.

也慢慢開始影響整體效率與加工品質。

Tooling and machining strategy

能讓切削負荷更平均，
降低刀具磨耗，
加工效率也更好一些。

help distribute cutting load more evenly,
