BIAS Architects & Associates was established in Taiwan by Hanju Chen, Chen-Jung Liu, and Alessandro Martinelli in 2013. In this respect, BIAS aims to foster cultural engagement and social awareness by uniting spac

e and program design with attention to both the human and non-human stakeholders of public space. In recent years, BIAS not only developed and implemented several projects for the transformation of Taiwan public space but also curated a series of important public events with large-scale installations for the promotion of Taiwan culture and public space, including the first two installments of Taipei ‘Nuit Blanche,’ the national exhibitions ‘2019 Creative Expo Taiwan’ and ‘2020 Taiwan Design Expo,’ and a modern religious festival named ‘DAXI DAXI’ where contemporary design joins folk beliefs. While the participation in these events has ranged from 200,000 to over 1,000,000 people, both the architectural and curatorial projects have been internationally awarded on several occasions. BIAS partners are Hanju Chen (Master in architecture at THU, Taiwan, and the Berlage Institute, the Netherlands), Chen-Jung Liu (Master in Landscape architecture at THU, Taiwan, and in architecture at the Berlage Institute, the Netherlands), and Alessandro Martinelli (Master in architecture at the USI Mendrisio, Switzerland, the Berlage Institute, the Netherlands, and Ph.D. in architecture at the USI Mendrisio, Switzerland). We are pleased to share that our work in Keelung has been featured in issue 613 of 建築師雜誌 (Taiwan Architect Journal), dedicated to the city’s ongoing renewal. In particular, the publication highlights two of our projects, each exploring how landscape, memory, and everyday movement can shape a more connected public realm, i.e., 基隆沙灣歷史文化園區 (Keelung Sino‑French War Memorial Compound) and 基隆希望之丘山城通廊 (Hope Hills Public Space Corridor).
Our thanks to the editorial team for the thoughtful coverage, and to all partners and collaborators in Keelung for making these spaces possible!
You can browse the journal and have a glimpse of the two projects here: https://www.twarchitect.org.tw/

We are honored that Tocco, a Paris-based global platform for material research and design networking, recognized the work of BIAS Architects & Associates. We are very honored that Built Environment Channel, an Australian media platform dedicated to supporting the contemporary architecture and construction industry, spotted BIAS Architects & Associates' Aurora Skating Rink Project and has decided to included it in their Design Atlas as a highlight of these days and, later on, as permanent entry of the same atlas.

The project, portrayed by the renowned photographer Marc Goodwin alongside OS Studio/原間影像, is an unusual incorporation of public art in a commercial space, featuring a large-scale dioptric lightbox by artist Maria Lezhnina that serves as both a backdrop and a focal point for the skating rink atop Taipei's NOKE 忠泰樂生活 Mall. The interior design of the subsidiary spaces elaborates on and around the art piece, guiding visitors through an architectural promenade that transitions from natural elements to a realm of abstract lights and colors preluding the time on the ice.

We are pleased to announce that, on the occasion of participating in the BAP! - Biennale d'architecture et de paysage, within the exhibition "4° Celsius entre toi et moi" curated by Philippe Rahm and Sana Frini at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles, 陳漢儒建築師事務所 - BIAS Architects has developed a small publication that accompanies and elaborates on the materials on display. Published by ListLab Editore and enriched by contributions from Rosalea Monacella and Julian Raxworthy, this booklet narrates the "Greenhouse as a Home" project, an architecture experiment initiated by BIAS in 2018 through a temporary pavilion that elaborated on Taiwan's urban-rural settlement system. Further developed for exhibition in the BAP! 2025, such a project aims at expanding the concept of the 'climatic approach' to architecture by incorporating a landscape subject, thus fostering new narratives of human-nature coexistence.

On the day of the BAP! 2025 exhibition opening -i.e., May 7th, 2025- the e-format of the book will be made available on the ListLab publisher website (https://www.listlab.eu/), featuring English and Chinese translations of the core texts.

衍序規劃設計 - BIAS Architects reimagines a lab building entrance in a Taiwanese science park, balancing industrial function with cultural refinement. Using prefabricated elements and archetypal forms, the design elevates daily routines through spatial generosity and a bold, infrastructural aesthetic.
