The 6th Edition of the Quarry Life Award.
More than 100 guests gathered in Heidelberg, Germany to celebrate the global winners of this unique competition showcasing biodiversity innovation and community engagement across Heidelberg Materials’ quarries.
Since 2012, the Quarry Life Award has transformed quarries into living laboratories, uniting researchers, students, communities, and nature enthusiasts to protect biodiversity. It has inspired 500+ projects across 170 sites and engaged over 18,000 people worldwide.
This year, Twiga Cement won an award in the category of "Connecting Quarries and Local Communities" with the project titled; “Enhancement of Rehabilitation Initiatives at Wazo Hill Quarry for City Eco-Tourism”. This project will be implemented in collaboration with the Sharon Ringo Foundation
For more than 50 years, Twiga Cement has been building Tanzania. But true progress also means protecting the environment that supports us all.
The winning project strengthens the bond between the quarry and its surrounding community by:
Fostering skills development for local youth.
Creating opportunities for eco-tourism and environmental education.
Demonstrating how quarry rehabilitation can bring people and nature together.
With our plant located in Dar es Salaam a fast-growing city of over 8 million people this effort creates a meaningful platform for the next generation to learn, experience, and be inspired to care for our environment.
This is a for Twiga Cement, for our communities, for our young people, and for Tanzania. Together, we continue building a future where both development and biodiversity thrive.
