The Executive Director of the Confederation of Tanzania Industries, Eng. Leodegar Tenga paid a strategic membership visit to Dangote Cement Tanzania Office in Dar es Salaam, where he met with the CEO, Mr. Adeyemi Fajobi.

The visit was more than a courtesy; it was a focused engagement on the realities of large-scale manufacturing, the opportunities ahead, and the challenges that require collective action. Discussions centered on strengthening the industrial environment, enhancing competitiveness, and unlocking growth across the sector.

Among the critical matters raised:
- 16% Free Carried Interest, where CTI continues to advocate that industrial minerals should be treated differently from precious minerals under the Mining Act. Applying this provision to industrial manufacturing places unnecessary pressure on investment and growth.

- The introduction of excise duty on cement risks creating an uneven playing field and undermining EAC-level competitiveness for local manufacturers.

As one of Tanzania’s leading industrial players, Dangote Cement continues to play a vital role in driving local production, job creation, and economic development.

These engagements reflect CTI’s ongoing commitment to listening to members, understanding their priorities, and translating them into impactful advocacy.

Because strong industries are built through strong partnerships.

The Chairman of the Confederation of Tanzania Industries, Hussein Suphian, welcomed a high-level delegation from Tanzania Breweries Limited, led by the Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs for BU East Africa, Hugo Gomez, for a strategic engagement on the future of the brewery industry in Tanzania.

As one of the country’s leading manufacturers, TBL continues to play a significant role in Tanzania’s economy, contributing to government revenues, supporting thousands of jobs across its value chain, and driving local sourcing and industrial growth. Its impact goes beyond production, touching communities, agriculture, and national development.

The discussion reflected a shared commitment to sustaining this impact by strengthening the operating environment for the industry. Key areas of focus included enhancing market integrity, improving cost efficiencies, and ensuring policy predictability to support long-term investment.

In particular, emphasis was placed on the importance of addressing illicit trade, optimizing the Electronic Tax Stamp (ETS) framework to ease the cost burden on manufacturers, and maintaining the multi-year tax policy framework introduced under the Finance Act, 2023 critical steps in fostering stability and competitiveness.

This engagement underscores CTI’s role as a trusted platform where industry leaders come together to shape solutions, strengthen advocacy, and unlock growth.

Because when industry thrives, the nation prospers.
