For years, clean cooking has been treated as a behavior change problem. I think it's a design problem.

People don't reject better cooking solutions because they don't understand them. They reject solutions that don't fit their budgets, routines, and realities.

This issue explores the difference.

Every clean cooking strategy I have read in the last decade contains some version of the same line. Awareness will drive adoption.

A few days ago, I found myself thinking about something we often overlook.

What if the things we throw away still have value?

Across farms, markets, food processing facilities, and households, large amounts of agricultural and organic waste are discarded every day. Most of us see waste as something to get rid of. But what if it could become part of the solution to some of our biggest challenges?

At Chabri Energy Ltd, this question drives much of what we do.

Many forms of biomass waste contain stored energy. Instead of allowing these materials to decompose or be burned inefficiently, they can be converted into useful fuel products that support households and businesses.

The concept is simple: waste should be viewed as a resource.

As global populations grow and environmental pressures increase, our ability to extract value from existing resources will become more important than ever.

The future may belong to those who learn how to see opportunity where others see waste.

What examples of waste-to-value innovation have impressed you recently?

Tunawezaje kupanua matumizi ya suluhisho k**a hili bila kuongeza gharama?
Ni mifumo gani mmeona ikifanya kazi vizuri katika mazingira k**a haya?
Tunaamini mjadala unapaswa kubadilika—kutoka “clean cooking ni ghali” hadi “tunawezaje kuufanya clean cooking ipatikane kwa wote?”
Ningependa kusikia mawazo na uzoefu wenu.

At Green Valley School, cooking the daily meals used to be a big struggle. The cooks worked with forest wood that came in all shapes and sizes. Some pieces were wet, some burned too fast, and others refused to burn at all. This meant the food took longer to prepare, classrooms sometimes filled with smoke, and the school kept spending more money on fuel.
One day, the school manager, Mr. Daniel, learned about KuniSMART briquettes. He decided to try them, not expecting anything special. But from the first delivery, the difference was clear. The briquettes were clean, easy to store, and all the same size. The cooks lit them quickly, and they burned with a steady flame.
Over the next few weeks, things changed for the better. Meals were ready on time because the briquettes produced stronger, more reliable heat. The storage room became neat because the fuel was easy to stack. There was much less smoke, which made the kitchen and nearby areas healthier for everyone. Cleaning also became easier since the briquettes left behind very little ash.
Even better, the school started saving money because the briquettes burned longer and used less fuel each day.
Switching from forest wood to KuniSMART briquettes didn’t feel like a big decision at first. But it ended up helping the school run more smoothly, save money, and protect the environment.
Mr. Daniel summed it up best: “For once, our fuel made life easier instead of harder.”

Every school day starts long before the first bell rings.
In many boarding schools and institutions, kitchens come alive at dawn. Large pots are set on stoves, staff work against the clock, and hundreds—sometimes thousands—of meals must be ready on time. For years, this daily routine depended on firewood: unpredictable supply, rising costs, heavy smoke, and unsafe working conditions.
That reality is quietly changing.
Schools and institutions using kuniSMART biomass briquettes are seeing practical, measurable improvements. The briquettes burn steadily, produce far less smoke, and deliver consistent heat—exactly what institutional kitchens need. Cooking times are more predictable. Fuel planning is easier. Waste is reduced.
For administrators, the impact shows up in budgets. Briquettes last longer than firewood and help stabilize fuel expenses, freeing up limited resources for what truly matters: learning materials, infrastructure, and staff support.
For kitchen staff, the change is personal. Cleaner combustion means healthier working conditions, fewer respiratory issues, and a safer environment overall. Many describe finishing their shifts with more energy and less fatigue.
There is also an environmental story here. kuniSMART briquettes are made from biomass waste—turning agricultural by-products into a reliable energy source. For schools and colleges, this aligns daily operations with sustainability goals, not as theory, but as practice.
Institutions don’t need radical changes to adopt this solution. Existing stoves are used. Daily routines remain familiar. The difference is simply that things work better.
In education and public institutions, progress is often incremental. But when meals are ready on time, kitchens are safer, costs are controlled, and environmental impact is reduced, those small gains compound.
Sometimes, meaningful innovation isn’t loud. It shows up early in the morning, in a kitchen that runs more smoothly than it did yesterday.

K**a nishati safi, kuniSMART biomass briquettes zina sifa kuu zifuatazo:
