Olivier is a female student currently enrolled in the Craft Certificate in Road Construction program at KIHBT. She is one of the 72 beneficiaries of the EASTRIP KIHBT scholarship targeted at vulnerable young women in Kenya. Despite having scored an average of C- grade in her Secondary Education finals in 2017, Olivier had been hawking coffee and mandazi in one of Nairobi’s informal settlements to help support her family, when she received a notification to attend an interview at KIHBT Nairobi.

The Industry Advisory Committees at the Regional Flagship Institutes have effectively aligned education, industry practices, and policy frameworks under East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) with funding from The World Bank Group.

This synergy has enabled institutions such as the Kenya Institute of Highways and Buiding Technology (KIHBT) and Kenya Coast National Polytechnic - Former MTTI to develop and implement curricula that address current market trends, thereby equipping graduates with relevant skills that meet employer requirements.

East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP), funded by World Bank Group, has fostered sustainability through commercialization by developing ecosystems within Regional Flagship Institutions.

The development of new curricula and training of trainers will enable these institutions to produce competent technicians, meeting industry needs and enhancing employability.

Staff development initiatives under East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP), supported by World Bank Group, have included PhD, Master's, and short course training, as well as staff exchange programs with Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. These programs have facilitated co-development of curricula at Regional Flagship Institutes(RFIs).

The National Institute of Transport - NIT Chuo Cha Taifa Cha Usafirishaji, Tanzania, is advancing gender diversity in aviation through targeted scholarships.

This support expands access to aviation training, strengthens inclusivity in TVET programs, and contributes to a more equitable skills development landscape in East Africa.

With funding from the World Bank Group under the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project, the National Institute of Transport - NIT Chuo Cha Taifa Cha Usafirishaji has aligned its training programs with Tanzania’s strategic goals for the transport sector.

As a certified Approved Training Organization, NIT has expanded its training capacity with the recent acquisition of training aircraft. This has enabled the launch of its flagship pilot training program, building practical aviation skills that strengthen East Africa’s aviation industry and improve graduate employability.
