FBW Group has taken an active and demonstrable role training and educating in East Africa and Europe in an effort to grow the region's skill-base.

Key members of the company management team including Moores – Group Managing Director, Nigel Tilling – Group Projects Director, and Antje Eckoldt – Group Director and Kenya Country Manager; are part of the external review panels of various East African Universities, developing local capacity and transferring their technical knowledge and skills to university students.

Architecture is all the more important in fast-changing environments like Uganda. The country is currently urbanising at a rate of more than 5.3% per year, according to a recent survey by the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA).

THROWBACK:

In September 2012, Ambrosoli International School in Kampala reopened its doors to the school community. It accommodates a multi-functional performance space, music and art rooms, library, IT lab and five class rooms as well as school kitchen, administration offices and staff room. Our works also included a re-modeling of the external
space to provide a new covered dining area and
sports and play facilities.

Mary Rose Atubo, FBW Uganda’s Architecture Section Manager was this year appointed as the Vice Chairperson of the Architects Registration Board Uganda. At the age of 32, Atubo heads the Ugandan arm of FBW’s architectural team after proving herself worthy of the position through her delivery of work in the firm.

Namuwongo is the second largest slum in Kampala with an estimated 15,000 people? 50 percent of this population are children.

Uganda Hands for Hope (UHfH) has identified ways to reach out to this community by selecting 25 to 30 of the most vulnerable children and placing them in their nursery school. Children with disabilities are also invited to a special needs class where they learn basic skills and are given their meals for the day.

We looked into how we can offer support to UHfH to ease the already great work they have done in Namuwongo and came up with the decision to prepare preliminary design proposals for their premises in Muyenga. These are some pictures of our team visiting UHfH.
