!!Street Lights Installation!!

Access to reliable public lighting is a critical component of economic growth, community safety, and social development. In a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for local communities, Aptech Africa successfully undertook the installation of 930 solar street lights across Ogooué-Ivindo Province in Gabon.

With a total installed solar generation capacity of 297 kWp and a combined battery storage capacity of 1,116 kWh, the project delivers dependable nighttime lighting while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and minimizing environmental impact. The solar street lighting system installed by Aptech Africa consists of: 930 Long Volt 100W Solar Street Lights from Inlux Solar, 8-meter and 9-meter galvanized steel pole and Integrated motion sensors with dimming functionality.

Implementing a project of this scale in a remote region presented significant logistical and technical challenges like the transportation of equipment to the final installation sites. To avoid delays and ensure project completion within the required timeframe, a logistical measure was undertaken where a total of 100 solar street lights together with their 8-meter galvanized poles were airlifted directly from China to Gabon.

The installation of 930 solar street lights is expected to deliver significant benefits to the residents of Ogooué-Ivindo Province. One of the most immediate benefits of public lighting is improved security. Residents can now move more freely and safely after dark, contributing to improved community well-being.

By utilizing renewable solar energy, the project reduces the burden on conventional power infrastructure while creating a resilient and self-sustaining public lighting network. The project significantly contributes to Gabon’s environmental sustainability objectives like reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, elimination of diesel fuel consumption for lighting, and reduced environmental footprint.

!!Advancing Energy Access in Sierra Leone!!

As the demand for reliable and sustainable energy solutions continues to grow across Africa, solar energy remains at the forefront of transforming institutions and facilities that require uninterrupted electricity for their daily operations.
In line with this mission, Aptech Africa successfully completed the installation of a solar energy system in Kabala, Sierra Leone, designed to provide dependable power while promoting environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.

The installed system consists of: Solar PV Capacity of 13.86 kWp, Battery Storage Capacity of 57.6 kWh, and a Backup Generator of 33 kVA Perkins Generator.

This hybrid energy solution was carefully designed to ensure continuous electricity supply while maximizing the use of renewable energy. The integration of battery storage allows energy generated during the day to be stored and utilized when solar production is low or during nighttime operations.

The project directly benefits: Facility staff, management teams, and daily facility users and visitors. Through this intervention, the facility can now maintain improved productivity, operational continuity, and better working conditions.

Like many infrastructure projects, the implementation process encountered several challenges that required effective coordination and adaptive project management, despite these setbacks, the project team worked closely with the client to ensure smooth progress and timely completion of the installation.

!!Conservation and Community Safety!!

As part of its continued commitment to delivering sustainable and reliable energy solutions across Africa, Aptech Africa has successfully installed a 90kWp roof-mounted hybrid solar power system with a 61.44kWh battery bank storage, powered by a Deye inverter and an advanced remote monitoring system in Badingilo Park and Boma, South Sudan.

Prior to the installation, limited and unreliable electricity supply created operational challenges, especially at night when the park and surrounding areas experienced inadequate lighting. The darkness posed: Security risks for staff and residents, reduced operational efficiency, limited nighttime visibility, and increased dependence on expensive and unsustainable fuel-powered generators.

With the implementation of the new solar hybrid system by the trained team of engineers and technicians, these challenges are now being addressed through stable and sustainable power generation.

The installation directly benefits more than 60 people operating within the park and surrounding facilities by providing access to dependable energy which allows staff to work more efficiently while reducing disruptions caused by power outages or fuel shortages. By utilizing clean solar energy, the system significantly reduces reliance on diesel generators, helping lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

!!PV Installation in Juba!!

South Sudan’s energy sector faces chronic shortages and heavy reliance on imported diesel generators. In Juba the nation’s capital grid power (provided by City Power) is unreliable, with frequent outages and voltage swings.

Aptech Africa commissioned a hybrid solar–battery system to ensure continuous power for a key community facility (serving 32 people). The rooftop installation harnesses abundant local sunshine while keeping existing grid and a diesel generator as backup.

At peak output (44.4 kW), the panels supply power directly to the building load or charge the battery with a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery bank that stores excess solar energy. The battery provides night-time power and short-term backup, smoothing out fluctuations and reducing generator runtime. A Victron Cerbo GX communication hub was installed to collect real-time data on battery state-of-charge, solar generation, load consumption and system health.

The hybrid system now provides nearly continuous electricity for the facility’s 32 residents/staff. With the generator used sparingly, air pollution and noise have been greatly reduced. As one report notes, switching from diesel to solar-battery backup “provides a clean environment from the generator noise pollution and greenhouse gases”. Early estimates suggest a monthly diesel fuel reduction similar to other projects of this scale. Lower fuel consumption directly cuts operating costs and frees budget for other needs

Thanks to the trained team of Engineers and technicians, a few challenges that were met were overcame and the system was successfully commissioned.

!!Empowering Education in Sierra Leone!!

Across the Western Area (Urban and Rural) of Freetown spanning Central I & II, East I–III, West I–III, Koya Rural, Waterloo Rural, and Mountain Rural, Aptech Africa installed standalone solar PV systems at 69 schools (one per site) and is currently maintaining the installed systems.

Reliable electricity significantly enriches school functions. Solar power provides continuous lighting in the principals’ offices and classrooms, extending usable hours for administrative work and study. With off-grid solar, each school can keep its internet equipment and routers running independently. This bridges the digital divide: GIGA research shows that lack of power is a major barrier to rural school connectivity. By ensuring continuous electricity, our project enables 69 schools to maintain internet access for students and staff.

By displacing costly diesel generators and unreliable grid connections, the schools cut their energy bills dramatically. Studies of schools and districts show that solar PV typically reduces electricity costs by 20–50%, freeing up budget for education. Switching from diesel/gasoline generators to clean solar energy cuts carbon emissions and pollution. The UNICEF case in Eritrea specifically noted that solarizing schools reduced each school’s carbon footprint while powering computers for learning.

During the rollout of 69 schools, several challenges arose. Despite the obstacles, all 69 systems were completed through proper project management, great communication and adaptability.
