UETCL has successfully handed over the site for the construction of the new Ntinda Substation at Kyambogo Village (K21), a key component of the 400kV Karuma–Tororo Transmission Line Project.

The substation will strengthen grid resilience and enhance power supply reliability across the Kampala metropolitan area, supporting Uganda’s growing electricity demand and socio-economic transformation.

As part of UETCL’s strategic plan to expand the national transmission network, the project contributes to the continued growth of the country’s grid infrastructure to meet future energy needs.

UETCL remains committed to the highest safety and environmental standards and will keep stakeholders informed as the project progresses.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Uganda Media Centre, where she provided a status update on Uganda’s Electricity Supply Industry (ESI), the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, assured the public that the ongoing power interruptions associated with UETCL’s are temporary and necessary to deliver a stronger, more reliable electricity network. The works are expected to be substantially completed by 8 August 2026.

She noted that, *”The current outages are temporary and are associated largely with planned investments that will significantly improve electricity reliability in the medium and long term.”*

The Government of Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to investing in modern electricity infrastructure that meets the growing demands of the economy and ensures every Ugandan has access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity.

A productive close to Quarter 4! 💪🏾

UETCL staff came together for the quarterly staff meeting, featuring a sensitisation session by the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) on data protection, privacy principles and the legal obligations surrounding personal data.

Representing the UETCL CEO, Company Secretary Stella Ladonna Wattanga, conveyed his appreciation for staff’s dedication and performance during FY 2025/2026, while encouraging everyone to build on those achievements in the new financial year as UETCL contributes to Uganda’s 10-Fold Growth Strategy.

UETCL’s CEO, Eng. Richard Matsiko, acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by customers and expressed appreciation for their patience as the progresses.

He noted that “these interruptions are a necessary part of delivering a stronger, more reliable transmission network capable of meeting the city’s rapidly growing electricity demand.”

With the project now 90.57% complete, we thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation as we work diligently to complete the remaining works as quickly and safely as possible.

The recent planned power interruptions in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area have understandably raised questions among electricity consumers.

In response, UETCL’s CEO, Eng. Richard Matsiko, and UEDCL’s Ag. Managing Director, Eng. Joselynne Rwakakooko, are hosting members of the media at Kampala North Substation, one of the sites where ongoing upgrades under the are taking place, to address public concerns and provide insight into why these essential works are critical to delivering a stronger, more reliable electricity network for Kampala.
