Industry Experience:
• My father worked in an electrical power plant for 32 years-he started my education.
• Over 35 years ago attended Harford Technical High School in Bel Air Md. for Electricity and Electronics. Immediately hooked to more of electricity’s capabilities.
• While in high school on work study and after high school worked for a commercial electrical company as an electrical apprentice. Hauled a lot of conduit but also priceless learning.
• Later worked for an industrial company as a plant “control room operator” of the facilities mechanical processing systems and was apprentice to the repair of its “pre-electronic” hardwired relay/device logic control systems. These were the days of “control rooms” filled with every switch/light/buzzer/button/graph/gauge/joystick/lever etc. under the sun and miles and miles of wiring. (It was freakin awesome!)
• Over 25 years ago started in the HVAC industry for an HVAC company as a radio dispatcher to over 100 mechanical service men and the programming of changes to a main frame automation system. HVAC automation was still a very new industry with the cutting-edge systems on 386 processor PCs running Windows 3.1 released just 2 years earlier.
• First commercial HVAC Automation system worked on was that very same pre-graphical DOS main frame system in the company office that had dedicated phone line connections with 1200 baud rate modems to controllers in buildings throughout the Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. Starting in the industry at this stage gave the opportunity to learn as a technician during the advent and progression of software, hardware and communication protocols/integrations.
• Continuing education over the years through night school and online classes at Harford Community College for assorted Information Technology classes.
• Continuing education of automation soft-wares and hardware from manufacture’s training/certification programs.
• Mechanical system experience-Chiller-Boiler Plants, Steam-Hot Water Systems, AHUs, RTUs, VAV/VVT systems, Packaged units, FCUs, CUHs, computer room units, process control and more.
• Types of programming-Script, Functional Block Diagrams.
• Integration of Protocols-BACnet/LON/Modbus.
• Communication backbones-RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ethernet.
• Types of control systems-pneumatic, hardwired relay logic and electronic distributed logic.
• Opportunity over the last 35 years of working for great companies and learning from so many incredibly educated and talented people.
