It's the holiday weekend. Roads will fill with families and travelers heading out to enjoy the long weekend.

Behind every safer trip are the public works professionals helping maintain the roads, traffic systems, signage, and infrastructure people rely on every day.

This National Public Works Week, Friday is a reminder that safety doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through preparation, awareness, and shared responsibility.

Before you head out this holiday weekend:
✅ Slow down in work zones
✅ Stay alert behind the wheel
✅ Avoid distractions
✅ Give crews and fellow drivers the space they need

Because every safe arrival matters to someone waiting at home.

Communities move because public works keep them moving.

From traffic operations and road maintenance to parks, sidewalks, and public facilities, these systems shape how people safely travel, gather, and experience their communities every day.

During National Public Works Week, we recognize the teams working behind the scenes to keep transportation flowing, public spaces maintained, and community areas safe, accessible, and welcoming.

Clean streets, organized traffic systems, and well-maintained public spaces do more than improve appearance; they support safer movement, stronger connections, and a better quality of life for everyone who uses them.

Because great communities are built on the systems people rely on every day.

Clean water is something most people take for granted, until it’s at risk.

Behind every faucet, drainage system, and treatment process are public works professionals who work every day to keep communities healthy, safe, and functioning.

During National Public Works Week, we recognize the importance of water and wastewater systems and the people who maintain the infrastructure that protects public health and supports daily life.

From managing stormwater runoff to keeping streets and drainage systems clean, every part of the process plays a role in protecting our water systems.

Strong communities depend on clean, reliable water systems above and below the surface.

Most people don’t think about public works until something goes wrong. A flooded street. Debris after a storm. Unsafe roads. Poor visibility. But every day, public works professionals are out there long before problems arise, maintaining roads, clearing debris, protecting stormwater systems, and helping communities move safely and smoothly.

During National Public Works Week, we recognize the people behind the work that often goes unnoticed, especially those involved in street and road maintenance and municipal sweeping.

Cleaner streets help protect infrastructure, support safer travel, improve environmental health, and create communities people are proud to live in.

1-800-SWEEPER is proud to support the municipalities and sweeping professionals who help keep communities clean, prepared, and connected every day.

Sometimes, the most important work is the work people rarely see.

Municipal sweeping does more than keep streets clean. It helps cities stay safer, healthier, and better prepared for the season ahead.

As temperatures rise in May, communities begin seeing more outdoor activity—more pedestrians, cyclists, events, and traffic moving through public spaces every day.

That’s why consistent sweeping matters. From clearing debris along curb lines to helping reduce pollutants before they reach storm drains, municipal sweeping plays an important role in maintaining safer, cleaner streets for everyone using them.

It also improves visibility, supports better road conditions, and helps communities take pride in the places they live, work, and gather.

At 1-800-SWEEPER, we connect municipalities with reliable local sweeping professionals who help keep streets maintained and ready for the busy season ahead.

Because cleaner streets support stronger communities.

Earth Day is a reminder that small actions create lasting impact.

What happens on our streets doesn’t stay there. Debris, dust, and pollutants often enter storm drains, waterways, and the environments we all share.

That’s where proactive maintenance matters.

Street sweeping plays a critical role in keeping communities cleaner, supporting environmental efforts, and protecting local ecosystems.

Happy Earth Day!

The numbers tell a story and it’s one we can’t ignore.

In 2023 alone, 899 people lost their lives in work zones. The majority weren’t workers, they were drivers and passengers.

Over 100,000 crashes and 40,000 injuries are estimated to happen in work zones each year.

And the trend?
Work zone risks continue to rise. Driven by distraction, speeding, and impatience.

Here’s the reality: Work zones don’t fail. Human behavior does.

A glance at a phone.
Pushing through a closing lane.
Assuming “it won’t happen to me.”

That’s where the risk lives.

As construction season ramps up, so does exposure. More work zones. More traffic. More opportunities for split-second decisions that carry real consequences.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is about accountability.

At 1-800-SWEEPER, we work alongside crews and communities in these environments every day. We see firsthand that safety is about choices.

Because behind every statistic is a person who expected to make it home.

Slow down. Stay alert. Make the safe choice.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 20–24, and we’re joining organizations across the country to remind drivers: Safe Actions Save Lives.

Work zones are someone’s workplace, including our 1-800-SWEEPER Members.

Every time our trucks roll into a lane closure, construction zone, or shoulder, our team is counting on one thing to get home safely: you, the driver, paying attention.

At 1-800-SWEEPER, we:

▪️Train our operators to work safely in active traffic and changing conditions
▪️Follow strict safety procedures in work zones, from PPE to vehicle positioning
▪️Coordinate closely with our contractor and agency partners to protect everyone on the job

As you travel this spring and summer, please help protect our crews and all roadway workers:

⚠️Slow down as soon as you see work zone signs or arrow boards
⚠️Stay alert—put the phone away and avoid other distractions
⚠️Obey flaggers and signs and be prepared for sudden stops or lane shifts
⚠️Never cut in front of large trucks or sweepers—we need extra room to maneuver and stop

Your choices behind the wheel directly impact the safety of our operators and every person working on or near the roadway.

This National Work Zone Awareness Week and all season long, let’s work together so everyone gets home safely.

Spring shows up fast. What winter leaves behind doesn’t go away; it moves.

Sand. Salt. Debris along curbs and storm drains doesn’t just sit there. It flows with the next rainfall, impacting your streets, infrastructure, and community.

A city-wide clean-up does more than clear roads. It helps municipalities:

• Create a cleaner, healthier environment
• Improve safety for pedestrians and drivers
• Reduce risks from debris and poor visibility

When streets are clean, communities feel it, visually, physically, and socially.

1-800-SWEEPER connects municipalities with reliable, local sweeping professionals, helping you stay ahead of the season.

Let’s get your city ready for what’s next.

Some businesses are passed down.
Some are built side by side.
And some become part of a family’s legacy.

This National Siblings Day, we’re recognizing something that has always been part of the 1-800-SWEEPER story: family-run businesses serving the communities they call home.
Many of our Members are locally owned, family-operated businesses built on trust, hard work, and relationships that go beyond the job itself. They’re not just working in these communities—they’re part of them.

They know the streets they sweep.
They know the people they serve.
And they care about the outcome because their name, their reputation, and their roots are tied to the place.

That’s what makes 1-800-SWEEPER special: national reach with a local touch.
Behind the trucks, the schedules, and the service is something deeper—families building something together, supporting their communities, and creating a business that stands for more than just work.

Today, we celebrate the siblings, families, and local business owners building lasting legacies together.

Happy National Siblings Day.
