Daily Devotion for February 1
Scripture:
2 Corinthians 13:5 “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?”
Observation:
It was the last step in the process. While finishing up the electrical and plumbing work on a home remodeling project, the last step was to call the inspectors to make sure all the work was up to code. Today's verse speaks of testing ourselves to see if we are in the faith, to make sure Jesus Christ is in us and if not, we will fail the test. As each inspector walked through their particular parts of the job, they were checking the work to make sure it was up to code for two reasons: to make sure it was done correctly, and the other was for the safety of those living in the house. To be honest, there were parts that needed to be corrected to pass. In life, I wonder if we ever check our own work to make sure we are up to code for the eternal life that awaits us. Thank God, we have repentance to go back and change those areas that aren't up to code. The question is twofold: who is your inspector, and are you living up to His code?
Application:
Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
