When the temperature dips down this cold, here are some things to do or check to make sure your heating system is running efficiently:

• If you set your heat back at night or while at work, keep it within 5 degrees during the freezing weather. Then your unit won’t have to work as hard to get back up to temperature.

• Make sure all outdoor hose bibs are shut off for the winter.

• If you have any pipes that tend to freeze, you should insulate or put heat tape on them.

• Check your filter and replace it if it is dirty; this will keep your equipment working efficiently.

• If you have a heat pump, make sure there are no leaves, snow, or ice around your unit so the air can circulate properly.

• Check your humidifier and make sure it is operational. Most people set it between 35-45 relative humidity.

We want to make sure your heating system is working efficiently with all this snow and cold weather...
1. Don’t forget to check your filter and make sure it’s clean. Your system has to work harder if it’s clogged.
2. Heat Pump Owner’s... make sure you clear the snow away so that there is at least 12 inches around your system in order for the air to flow properly.
