Project Spotlight: Heavy-Duty Composite Mats Transform Soft, Sandy Beaches into Stable Surfaces for Renourishment Project

As Hurricane Irma swept across South Florida in 2017, the resulting storm surge wrecked a 1.2-mile stretch of shoreline in Key Biscayne, a barrier island near Miami, FL.

Between March and April 2021, crews led by Ferreira Construction Co., Inc. trucked in approximately 31,000 cu yds. of new sand to rebuild the damaged beach and dunes and maximize shoreline protection for the future.

What could the future of outdoor dining look like?
You can test drive this cool new "Fast Casual," outdoor dining concept the next time you’re in NYC’s Times Square. The dining module was unveiled as part of the Times Square Alliance's Times Square Design Lab, which explores ideas for public space in real-time, and with real people, on the plazas.

Fantástica, a Brooklyn-based design firm, teamed up with TRINITY HIGHWAY RENTALS and Hollaender, a manufacturer of aluminum fittings, to create this flexible, seating and dining module concept for restaurants looking to expand to outdoor dining in an efficient, but aesthetically pleasing way. The prototype is six-foot-long to reinforce social distancing and configured to accommodate various spaces with customizable lighting, colors, canopy materials, and signs.
