Some parts are difficult to inspect before you even get to the tolerances.

Large components. Complex geometries. Features that are hard to reach. Parts that aren't exactly easy to move around.

These are all things that have to be considered when choosing metrology equipment.

And while accuracy is obviously important, it's only part of the conversation.

Can the CMM accommodate the size and weight of the part? Can the probe reach the features that need to be measured? How will the part be fixtured? Does the measurement process make sense for the volume of work?

Same machine model. Two very different setups.

One customer might need a straightforward vertical machining center for a specific family of parts. Another might choose that same DN Solutions model with probing, additional tool capacity, a fourth axis, or automation provisions.

At some point, the way you've always made the part can become the thing holding production back.

That's when it may be worth taking a serious look at a horizontal machining center.

If you're machining multiple sides of a part, running higher volumes, spending a lot of time loading and unloading, or looking for a better way to keep production moving between parts, an HMC may be worth considering.

Pallet changing can allow the next job to be set up while the machine is still cutting. Plus, the horizontal orientation can help with chip evacuation, and access to multiple sides of a part can change how you approach the entire process. BUT that doesn't mean a horizontal is automatically the right answer. Plenty of applications are better suited for a vertical.

That's why we start with the parts and the process, then figure out which machine configuration actually makes sense for the work.
