We have some very talented and creative 2nd graders in our area! As a part of our safety program, students were challenged with creating a poster that illustrates a safety tip they learned from MLEC. Poster winners received cool prizes for their hard work. Congrats Rippleside Elementary winners!

Safety always comes first at Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative. Last week, MLEC employees participated in our annual pole top rescue training facilitated through the Minnesota Rural Electric Association.

During the training, lineworkers re-certified their climbing skills and practiced emergency rescue scenarios to prepare for real-life situations that could occur in the field. Crews trained on how to safely rescue a fellow lineworker from a pole or bucket, lower them to the ground, and begin first aid measures if needed.

By continuing hands-on safety training each year, MLEC ensures our employees are prepared to respond safely and effectively in any situation, because safety is at the heart of everything we do.

⚡ May is National Electrical Safety Month ⚡

It’s the perfect time to brush up on simple ways to keep your home and family safe from electrical hazards.

🔌 Never use electrical equipment near water
💡 Make sure light bulbs match the fixture’s recommended wattage
⚠️ Use extension cords for temporary use only—never under rugs, through walls, or across doorways
🔋 Avoid overloading outlets and power strips

A few small habits can make a big difference in preventing fires and injuries. Stay safe and power smart!

We had a great week visiting 2nd graders in Aitkin, McGregor, Onamia, and Nay Ah Shing! ⚡️

Students learned all about electrical safety, both inside and outside the home, with the help of Louie the Lightning Bug and our interactive display. From power lines to outlets, these kids are now equipped with important tips to help keep themselves and their families safe.

To top it off, students will create a poster showing what they learned. Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing our poster contest winners soon!
