Position Overview: In collaboration with the Cut to Length (CTL) Operators, the
general laborer will assist with set up, processing, stacking, packaging, and material
handling of stainless steel and aluminum rolled coil and processed sheets in
accordance with specialized instructions to prepare the material for packaging and
shipment to the final customer.
Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties:
Minor lifting & movement of up to 50lbs, moderate to extended walking & standing.
Building skids, banding and sheet pushing. Working a table saw to cut boards to
specified sizes. Using a nail gun to build the skids.
Assist in duties at the end of the line which include the packaging of the material
(covering the material with cardboard, paper, or plastic), working a battery -controlled
hand ba**er to secure material to skid.
General shop cleaning. Sweeping, straightening up of packaging supplies (cardboard,
pvc paper, corner boards, lumber boards, etc.)
Operation of a tow motor to move bundles of lumber or small items on the floor.
Processing line "pusher" to move skids and package the sheets on the skid
Responsible for correct stacking of processed sheets, scrap, hand tool maintenance,
and quality of product.
Interpret instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
Read production schedules and work orders to plan the efficient sequence of
operations, apply knowledge of physical properties of slit and Cut to Length (CTL)
materials.
Build custom skids to specification utilizing saws, jigs, fixtures, and heavy-duty nail
guns.
Assist with the positioning of steel coils and processed sheets on the conveyor, using
crane, chain hoists and lift trucks.
Measure completed processed sheets to verify conformance to specifications, using
tape measure, micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
What you must demonstrate:
High School diploma or GED preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude
Dependability following safety protocol
Reliable, consistent attendance
Ability to use a tape measure when measurement must be precise (fractions)
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work well with others
Experience operating a tow motor preferred
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and
moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and
handling of materials.
Have reliable transportation to and from work
Availability to work 8-hr days M-F with some Saturday work
