Field Day Week for 2024 is in full force.
Amateur Radio Field Day is the most fun “ham related” event on the calendar every year. Some of us feel that participating in it should be required after you get your license. It’s that great of an experience! Most of us plan 6 months or more each year, figuring out what we can do to improve our scores, make the setup easier, and maximize the Field Day Fun.
The reasons we do Field Day events are many, Field Day is part educational event, part operating event, part public relations event – and ALL about FUN & Fellowship! The objective is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. You do not need to have any more than a “Tech License” in order to operate on the HF bands, and those that don’t even have a license can still help out by logging for those who are operating stations.
The Crooked River Amateur Radio Club is in the final stages of getting ready too. Our Field Day site will be on Eastwood Ave in Tallmadge, exact address will be announced soon, we want to encourage everyone to come out and join us! This is Your Invitation to have fun, learn about Field Day, setting up and tuning antennas, and enjoy the great food that will be available for all participants. When is Field Day?? Setup is June 21st at 4:00pm and the event starts at 2:00pm on the 22nd through 2:00pm on the 23rd!! Even if you’ve never been to a Ham Radio Field Day, your help is needed during setup on Friday the 22nd and teardown on Sunday the 24th. Of course, we also need loggers and operators during the 24-hour continuous operation from 2PM Saturday to 2PM Sunday. New hams are always welcome and can operate with the privileges of the control operator. It’s a great opportunity to work with lots of different radios, learn about beam and wire antennas, and pick up tips from experienced operators. Station operation will be low pressure to ensure you have a chance to learn at your pace, and most importantly, have fun! There is always great food and camaraderie, and you may become acquainted with some of the wildlife in the area. Our mascot Tex the Bull will likely make an appearance along with a few mosquito pals. Be forewarned, some repellent may be needed to ensure you are having fun, which is what Field Day is all about.
Everyone is welcome, whether they are a ham or not. Anyone can help by logging for an operator or operating themselves and it will be greatly appreciated.” Need more info? Contact Pat @ 330-786-8088 or email [email protected]
