I believe one of the challenges every company faces is understanding what they are doing right when it comes to attracting and retaining great employees 👥

Leadership teams spend a lot of time thinking about culture, flexibility, interesting work, and professional growth — but sometimes the most direct way to understand what truly matters is simply to ask the people who are part of the organization every day 💭

With that in mind, I recently asked our team a straightforward question:
“Why do you enjoy working at Rubber City Engineering & Environmental?” ❓

The responses were thoughtful, honest, and reflective of the diverse group of professionals who make up our company.

Our team includes full-time engineers and designers, part-time professionals, and even a few experienced retirees who still enjoy contributing their expertise. That mix of perspectives is one of the things that makes our firm unique 🧠

Below are a few of the responses I received (shared with permission): 💬

Reading these responses was both humbling and encouraging. It reinforced that while projects, deadlines, and technical challenges are part of what we do every day, the people, and the environment we create together are what truly define a company 🤝

I’m grateful for the talented group of professionals who choose to be part of Rubber City Engineering & Environmental and for the experience, perspective, and personality each person brings to our work. They are the reason we are able to do what we do 👏

Sometimes the best insights about a company’s culture come directly from the people who live it every day.

🎉 Celebrating One Incredible Year - Rubber City Engineering & Environmental! 🎉

One year ago, we officially launched Rubber City Engineering & Environmental — a new chapter built on experience, passion, and a commitment to delivering thoughtful, practical, and innovative solutions for our clients and communities.

What an amazing first year it’s been!

From day one, our journey has been defined by trust, collaboration, and growth. We’ve had the privilege of working with tremendous clients who share our values and who continually challenge us to raise the bar. Even more rewarding, so many of our new opportunities have come through referrals and recommendations — the highest form of compliment, and a reflection of the relationships we’ve built together.

I’m incredibly proud of our team, whose dedication, creativity, and professionalism have made this year such a success. They bring energy and excellence to every project, every day — and it shows.

We’ve also been fortunate to collaborate and strategically team with outstanding professionals and partner companies across disciplines — engineers, scientists, planners, architects, and more — who help us provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary solutions that truly meet our clients’ needs. These partnerships have not only strengthened our capabilities but have also deepened our shared impact.

As we head into the final stretch of this year, I’m looking forward to taking a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come (and maybe take a short breath, too!). The pace has been fast, the work meaningful, and the momentum exciting — and the New Year is already shaping up to be one of continued growth, opportunity, and success.

To our clients, partners, and team members — THANK YOU for being part of this journey. Your trust, collaboration, and support have made all the difference.

Here’s to year two and beyond — building stronger relationships, tackling new challenges, and continuing to make a positive impact together!

Rubber City Engineering and Environmental (RCEE) recently had the opportunity to help four different clients—including two townships, one private landowner, and the Village of Ansonia—navigate the complex process of securing final approval from the Ohio EPA to officially conclude the Post-Closure Care period for their legacy landfill sites.

Calling it a “process” would be an understatement. It took time, coordination, and persistence. But we were fortunate to work with some truly helpful individuals at both the Ohio EPA and the County Recorder’s office, and in the end, we reached a successful conclusion.

To be clear, this doesn’t eliminate landowner liability—but milestones like these are still meaningful. There’s a real sense of satisfaction that comes from helping our clients achieve closure on long-term environmental responsibilities. It’s one of those moments where we get to help “tie a bow” on something that’s been open for a long time.

We’ve included a letter from one of the clients involved, as it captures exactly the kind of feedback that makes the work we do at RCEE so rewarding.

Exciting Opportunity for Professional Autonomy and Growth

Are you a seasoned professional with established or growing client relationships, yet feel constrained by the lack of opportunities to truly grow or shape your own book of business?

Do you have a vision for cultivating lasting client connections in sectors that ignite your passion — whether that’s transportation, water/wastewater, site development, or other civil and environmental markets?

Whether you're currently working full-time and feeling limited by rigid corporate structures, or you're retired (or considering retirement) and looking for a more flexible or part-time role that still lets you stay engaged and do meaningful work—we'd love to talk.

At Rubber City Engineering and Environmental, we’re looking for talented individuals ready to take ownership of their careers—on their terms—and thrive in a company that values initiative, relationships, and real results over metrics and red tape.

If you're feeling held back in your current role—by organizational bottlenecks, billable-hour expectations, or lack of growth opportunity—we may be the change you're looking for. We believe success is driven by impact and relationships, not just spreadsheets and KPIs.

Why Rubber City Engineering and Environmental?

Autonomy: Build or continue to grow your book of business and nurture impactful client relationships.

Career Flexibility: Whether full-time or part-time, shape a role that fits your lifestyle and goals.

Career Growth: Break free from organizational limits and define what success looks like for you.

Work-Life Balance: Join a team that respects your time and supports your broader ambitions.

Support Behind the Scenes: Focus on delivering great project work and maintaining your client connections — we’ll handle the operational and administrative tasks.

If this speaks to you, let’s connect!

Reach out to Mike Stepic at [email protected] and explore where your career—or next chapter—can go when you're empowered to lead it.

Rubber City Engineering and Environmental, LLC is looking for a full-time or part-time intern/cooperative education student to work at our office in Akron during the upcoming Spring of 2025. Our listing is below.

RUBBER CITY ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL, LLC
CIVIL ENGINEERING COOPERATIVE STUDENT
JOB DESCRIPTION

Rubber City Engineering and Environmental, LLC (RCEE) is seeking a FULL TIME and a PART TIME Intern/Cooperative Education student majoring in Civil Engineering for an exciting position with our company for the Spring of 2025.

RCEE has been recently formed from its legacy company, Seneca Engineering, due to a recent business ownership change. Same great folks, same great location!

Our leadership has a long-standing record of supporting interns and cooperative education programs and working together with the students to develop strong skill sets and professional acumen.

We believe that the cooperative education experience is an opportunity for the student to develop appropriate skills (i.e., computer design, real-world calculations, technical writing, interaction with clients, regulatory agencies, and coworkers, construction oversight and inspection, etc.) that will build a foundation for their future professional careers.

RCEE developed from the senior leadership of legacy companies in the Akron area. We have a strong backlog of projects and a tremendous portfolio of long-term clients.

We specialize in site/civil design, industrial wastewater permitting, storm water management, environmental compliance, and solid waste management on a variety of intriguing and interesting projects for our clients across Ohio.

We believe that we offer a unique opportunity for a person with a strong work ethic and personal initiative that will provide a great deal of experience to a promising career.
