🐝 A huge thank you to Elliot Welker and the team at UF Innovate | Sid Martin Biotech for the warm welcome and incredible tour of the biotechnology incubator in Progress Park, Alachua.
I had the opportunity to meet with Elliot to learn more about the incubator, network with Florida's biotech community, and discuss what it takes to become part of such an outstanding organization.
I was especially impressed by the state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, advanced equipment, and, most importantly, the collaborative community they've built to help biotechnology startups succeed. It's inspiring to see an environment where innovation and entrepreneurship come together to turn scientific ideas into real-world impact.
I'm incredibly grateful to Elliot for taking the time to meet with me, answer my questions, and share more about the opportunities available through UF Innovate. I truly appreciate the encouragement and insight.
Thank you again for your hospitality. I look forward to staying connected and continuing to grow BeeCured Biotech here in Florida's thriving biotechnology ecosystem.

🐝 What are we actually looking for when we open a hive?

The first thing I look at is overall bee activity. Are the bees calm and behaving normally? A healthy colony has thousands of workers constantly moving, communicating, and carrying out their jobs.

Next, I inspect the frames. Is the queen actively laying eggs? Is there healthy brood developing? Are the bees building new comb? Are they storing enough nectar and pollen to support the colony?

I also look for signs of stress, disease, pests, or anything that could threaten the hive before it becomes a bigger problem.

A single frame can reveal the health, productivity, and future of an entire colony.

At BeeCured Biotech, everything starts with healthy bees. Understanding the biology of the hive is the foundation for the research we're building.

🐝 I've been stung hundreds of times. That's exactly why I started a biotech company.

I am a 20-year-old University of Florida student, but my journey into biotechnology didn't begin in a laboratoryβ€”it began in the bee yard.
In 2021, my parents founded Wicked Stinger Bee, a Florida beekeeping operation that I've been part of since day one. Today, we manage more than 2,000 honey bee colonies across the state. I've spent more time in the bee yard than in the classroom and witnessed firsthand the incredible biology behind every hive.

That journey led me to found BeeCured Biotech.
πŸ”¬ Our mission is simple: produce research-grade apitoxin (bee venom) and help advance the scientific understanding of one of nature's most fascinating compounds. We're researching its potential medicinal applications while building the infrastructure needed to support researchers and the future of apitherapy.
πŸ’‘ I'm not building this company for the title. I'm building it because I believe the next breakthrough could start with something we've overlooked for centuries.
