🗞️ The Daily Orange highlighted the NY Creates-Micron Technology Joint Apprenticeship Program, an initiative designed to create a pathway for future semiconductor technicians and help build New York’s next generation workforce.

The program has begun for the first cohort with hands-on training, classroom instruction, and mentorship to prepare participants for careers in the semiconductor industry. Additional cohorts will launch in 2027 and 2028, expanding opportunities for individuals interested in joining this growing field.

As highlighted in the article, apprenticeship programs can open doors for people at many stages of their careers, ranging from recent high school graduates with a passion for technology to experienced professionals seeking a new path.

As Capri O’Hara, Director of Workforce Development at Creates, noted, “Micron’s investment in Clay represents a transformative opportunity for central New York, but realizing that opportunity requires more than building a world-class facility. It requires a skilled, sustainable talent pipeline to support it.”

Meet the Creators at NY Creates: Ryan Moore ✨

Ryan Moore has spent the past 12+ years helping keep Creates' cleanroom operations running at their best as our Senior Cleanroom Operations Manager. He works closely with our teams and on-site partners to support semiconductor R&D while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence. He also partners with our Recruitment team to help create opportunities for employees to learn, grow, and succeed.

What Ryan loves most about his role? Solving problems, improving processes, and helping people build rewarding careers.

NY Creates (New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science) is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the most advanced, accessible semiconductor R&D facility in North America, the Albany NanoTech Complex. This 1.65-million-square-foot cutting-edge facility, with more than 200,000 square feet of cleanroom space including 50,000 square feet at its new NanoFab Reflection facility, under construction, supports an on-site workforce of 3,000 engineers, industry experts, and academic personnel.

Creates’ three key mission pillars focus on advancing research and development in areas including advanced logic process technologies, memory, heterogeneous integration and advanced packaging, quantum, integrated photonics, and more, while bolstering related workforce development and driving economic advancement. Members of the NY Creates business team, Frank Tolic and Gayathri Jampana, met with Creates and AIM Photonics TAP partner, Steve Huchro, Entegris Account Manager to discuss new critical supply chain technologies for semiconductor packaging and front-end advanced wafers. The semiconductor industry supply chain is critical to the global semiconductor market, and with a growing New York State ecosystem, including Micron Technology, GlobalFoundries, IBM, onsemi, and many others, it was helpful to learn more about how Entegris as a major supplier is providing not only wafer carriers, but also critical supply chain materials in CMP slurries and pads, as well as essential process chemistries for electroplating, etch, and much more.

NY Creates works with many of these supply chain companies providing access to advanced test wafers, equipment access, technology know-how, and other critical technology to ensure they have what they need to support the semiconductor ecosystem.
