The impact of generations of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere has served to dramatically increase the concentrations of carbon dioxide, the chief contributor to the planetary warming that global data has shown to be accelerating over especially the last 50 years.

As you anticipate the return of your employees to the office, there are many things that need to be considered, HVAC being one of them. ASHRAE's Recommendations for HVAC changes due to COVID-19 are as follows:

• Increase outdoor air ventilation (use caution in highly polluted areas); with a lower population in the building, this increases the effective dilution ventilation per person.
• Disable demand-controlled ventilation (DCV).
• Improve central air filtration to the MERV-13 or the highest compatible with the filter rack, and seal edges of the filter to limit bypass.
• Keep systems running longer hours, if possible 24/7, to enhance the two actions above.
• Consider portable room air cleaners with HEPA filters.
• Consider UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation), protecting occupants from radiation, particularly in high-risk spaces such as waiting rooms, prisons and shelters.

How we can help:

1. Upgrade Filters – Adjust preventative maintenance contracts to include MERV 13 (standard contracts include MERV 8 filters) or have us do a onetime change out.

2. Evaporator Coil Sanitizing – This could be added onto your PM’s. It is a cleaning agent that is applied to the evaporator coil which kills 99.9% of bacteria.

3. UV Lights – These are the most proven way to help reduce bacteria that passes through your HVAC system.
