Electricity powers our lives, but it can also pose serious risks. Many electrical hazards stem from common misconceptions about what is “safe." Understanding these myths can help prevent dangerous situations.

Myth: If a breaker hasn’t tripped, everything is safe.
Reality: Overloaded outlets and damaged cords can still overheat and pose fire risks before a breaker trips.

Myth: Power strips and surge protectors can handle any number of devices.
Reality: Overloading power strips, especially with heat-producing appliances, increases the risk of fire.

Myth: Extension cords are a long-term solution.
Reality: Extension cords are designed for temporary use only and should never be used as a permanent replacement for wiring or outlets.

Myth: Minor shocks or tingling are harmless.
Reality: Even mild shocks can signal serious electrical problems that require professional inspection.

Bright and early—before we even opened the office doors—Sarah Dreibelbis recently sat down with her very first hire, Brad Wentworth, to celebrate and reflect on his remarkable career. Their conversation honored Brad’s 28 years at the cooperative, which officially wraps up today as he marks his retirement and final day at Noble REMC.

Thank you, Brad, for your years of dedicated service! We’re so grateful for all you’ve done, and we wish you the best in retirement.

And a special thanks to Cody and Kevin for representing Noble REMC! (You can spot them in the third photo. 🔍)

Noble REMC lineworkers face hazards every day as they repair and maintain the electric system that keeps our community running. When their work takes them to roadsides, their safety depends on drivers staying alert and slowing down. In honor of National Work Zone Awareness Week, Noble REMC reminds motorists to do their part by driving safely through work zones and around crews.
