Every successful VLAT mission starts long before the aircraft takes off.

A huge thank you to the incredible crews at our tanker bases. While much of their work happens behind the scenes, they are an essential part of every wildfire response. From mixing and loading fire retardant to fueling aircraft, coordinating ground operations, and ensuring every departure is safe and efficient, these teams keep us mission ready.

Because of their expertise and dedication, we're often able to have turn around times between missions in as little as 20–30 minutes, maximizing the number of retardant drops we can make when every minute counts.

To those working the ramps, fire retardant loading, fueling operations, maintenance, and base management: thank you for your professionalism, teamwork, and long hours. We couldn't do what we do without you.

Shout out to the Lassen Hotshots for sharing this video and for their dedicated efforts on the Red Butte Fire in Central Oregon. Despite the winds and dry conditions, the firefighters and aerial resources successfully slowed the wildfire’s spread.

Tanker 910 is headed out of Medford to serve the firefighting operations of the Big Grass Fire on the Idaho/Oregon border. The wildfire has grown over 300,000 acres and is 21 percent contained.

On July 16, 2006, 10 Tanker completed our first retardant drop in Southern California.

Today, we're celebrating 20 years of supporting firefighters from the air. We want to extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the past two decades. Your trust and partnership have made this milestone possible.

Say hello to a 10 Tanker lead plane! These aircraft lay down a line of smoke to mark exactly where our tanker should drop retardant.

Lead planes are typically a King Air B200, OV-10 Bronco, or Commander 690. Because 10 Tanker operates VLATs, they play a critical role in every mission. Flying low through the fire environment, their skilled pilots guide the tanker, identify safe entry and exit routes, relay wind conditions, confirm the drop area is clear of ground personnel, and help ensure every mission is conducted safely and effectively.

They're an essential part of our operation. Thank you, lead planes!
