We are hiring! We’re looking for a GS-12 Civil Engineer in our Engineering & Construction Division’s Design Branch in Albuquerque, N.M. The incumbent will provide general civil engineering expertise and deliverables in support of Civil Works, Operations, Military Construction, Interagency & International Services, Emergency Operations, and Environmental programs in support of the USACE-Albuquerque District.

Duties:
• Complete in-house designs for reconnaissance studies, feasibility reports, designs, design analysis, construction plans and specification, and technical provisions for the general civil engineering features of district programs.
• Responsible for preparation of scopes of work, technical appendices, and government estimates for design fees and development of design criteria for Architect-Engineering (A-E) contracts.
• Perform duties of COR and administer and maintain liaison throughout the contract life to ensure contract and schedule compliance, resolution of technical problems, and information is furnished in a timely manner.
• Establish, coordinate, monitor, and adjust project schedules and funding requirements for design and construction of all program projects.
• Represent the District in meetings with local, state, federal, and private interests pertaining to project schedules, objectives, and requirements.

‼️We’re looking to fill a branch chief position (GS-0810-14/supervisory civil engineer). The position provides supervision and direction to the Branch, Hydrology and Hydraulics Section, and Water Management Section employees for the Albuquerque District mission ex*****on. The position reports directly to the district’s Engineering and Construction Chief.

Program and project tasks include hydrology and hydraulics for Albuquerque District civil works projects, flood reduction and floodplain technical management, reservoir operational analysis and gate changes, reservoir water compact coordination, and GIS/mapping analysis. The position requires a minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited 4-year program and an active Professional Engineer License.

• Stay abreast of overall District water resources program. Set priorities, plan, and provide direction for the utilization of the branch.
• Resolve problems and issues beyond the capability or authority of the section Chiefs, through coordination with higher authority, other agencies, and the public as necessary to facilitate the accomplishment of the branch mission.
• Evaluate overall performance of employees and section chiefs; provide advice, counsel, and instruction to accomplish assigned functions.
• Responsible for technical quality of work produced in the branch. Review the engineering work of the branch to insure reasonableness of procedures and results, and consistency with Corps regulations, technical guidance, and policy.

⚠️ Alcohol and Water Are a Deadly Combination ⚠️

Mixing alcohol with boating or water activities can have serious—and even fatal—consequences.

When under the influence, a condition called caloric labyrinthitis can cause severe disorientation, making it difficult to tell which way is up if you are underwater.

Boaters are also at risk of boater’s hypnosis, a condition caused by prolonged exposure to sun, wind, noise, vibration, and motion. This can lead to fatigue and slower reaction times.

Add alcohol to the mix, and coordination, judgment, and reaction time are significantly impaired.
