Whether your deck is 16 inches or 16 feet off the ground, large or small you can rest assured the same care and quality will be put into it. We build our decks to be as strong as possible and take every avenue to mitigate the risk of water damage as much as possible. Every joist and stringer is taped before the deck and stairs are installed, handrails have no screw holes on the surface, brackets are used as much as needed, and the ground has excellent drainage.
Here, because the yard slopes towards the house, the ground under and around the deck needed a little drainage work. After slightly grading the area, 4-6" of gravel was laid down to stop the puddling around the deck and to give a clean look to it all. 6x6 posts were used in the framing and the roof was made with 2x6s and tied into the existing metal roof. The homeowner wanted to utilize some rebar he had for the handrail system. After fixing up the siding and painting the door, this deck really adds some value to the home and is a great spot to step outside and relax on.
