A lot of people are off today for Labor Day, including our offices here at Bigfoot. But while many of us are enjoying a day off, there are still a whole lot of people out there working and keeping this great nation going.

Of course we think about our police officers, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, doctors and other first responders who don’t get to simply shut things down for a holiday.

But today we also want to recognize some of the unsung heroes.

The person behind the counter at the gas station.

The cook in the kitchen and the server bringing out your lunch.

The cashier at the grocery store.

The folks working retail so the rest of us have somewhere to go and something to do on our day off.

The truck drivers still moving freight. The utility workers keeping the lights on. And yes, the HVAC technicians running emergency calls in the Louisiana heat when everybody else is trying to enjoy their holiday.

And all the other people who got up, put on their work clothes and went to work this morning while the rest of us got to sleep in a little longer.

Labor Day is about the American worker.

So to everybody working today — thank you. We see you, we appreciate you, and today we celebrate you.

If you’re sweating while getting ready for church this morning, it might be time to have that AC and ductwork checked out.

But not today. Go worship. Go eat some lunch afterward — probably Mexican food for most of you, huh? 🌮😂 — and enjoy the day with your family.

Enjoy your day off tomorrow too… well, some of you anyway!

Bigfoot is a family-owned business, but when we say “family,” we mean more than just the people who share our last name.

My wife runs our office. Two of my sons are out in the field doing HVAC, generator, and installation work. One of my daughters handles our payroll.

But our family is much bigger than that.

We have a dozen or so other people who come to work every day and pour their time, sweat, and passion into this company. We may not all be kin by blood, but after working side by side, solving problems together, sweating through Louisiana summers together, celebrating the good days and pushing through the hard ones together, you become family.

We officially have Tropical Storm Edouard. I'm so lightning fast at posting that they are still calling it Five in my system. Unless its a robot from an 80s movie, I'll go with Edouard. Recon is currently investigating the system and found enough to upgrade. It looks like Edouard will make landfall around noon tomorrow as a fairly strong tropical storm. I don't foresee crazy issues, but some isolated power outages and 1-4 feet of storm surge flooding is likely along and east of the path. That surge flooding could get all the way out to Morgan City, and waves will likely be 3-5 feet in near shore waters, so I'd bump the fishing trip a day or two. Here are the latest stats on Edouard.
